Dunno why they chose to do this and ruin our sympathy for Ben. I don't see how they thought this would be as iconic, or even as funny, as Phil doing this to Ian. This doesn't work for 2 reasons: number one, ben and peter are closely related. At many points, they were living together in the same house with Ian, Jane, Lucy and Bobby. They also visited each other whenever Ian and the kids went to south Africa to meet Kathy. You don't do this to your family unless you have good reason. Which brings me on to reason number 2: seeing as Ben's the one who did wrong, there's no good reason why Ben should feel the need to do in Peter. Ben attacked Peter, lied about/hid the fact that he attacked Peter and then barely apologised when he got found out. In fact, he basically told Peter to get over it for the sake of Kathy. Next day he continued to antagonise Peter. He had no remorse for his actions at all, and yet he's surprised when Peter shops him to the police. It was funny/iconic when Phil did this to Ian because Ian was a prick to Kathy and everyone else for years so when Phil plunged Ian the first time, it felt like the comeuppance of a villain from an antihero. Here, it just feels like Ben is enjoying mindless humiliation of one of his closest relatives (his nephew). This makes Ben look like a monster, and yet we're expected to feel sorry for him when he's raped/mindlessly humiliated back?

You're asking if we're supposed to feel sorry for a rape victim despite their actions?... Yes, yes we are, he didn't get beat up, he was raped.
