Living in Wisconsin under my Ordinary, Bishop Morlino has been so wonderful, however... I miss Mater Ecclesiae like no other. A friend coined the phrase," A Model Parish with A Model Priest" . I couldn't have said it better. God love you Father Pasley and the wonderful parishioners of Mater Ecclesiae . You will always be in my daily prayers and in my heart.

From Mater Ecclesiae Chapel: The Easter Vigil is a Vesperal service; that is, it is properly celebrated in the late afternoon/evening between the Hours of None and Vespers, with a short Vespers at the end of the Vigil Mass. It is an evening service, not a nocturnal one. The Vigil and Mass of Holy Saturday are a proper Liturgy to Holy Saturday itself for the purpose of receiving Catechumens into the Church and keeping watch; it is not the celebration of the Resurrection, although the joy thereof begins to be anticipated. The Mass lacks Propers, the Credo, and the Kiss of Peace in addition to the lack of candles borne at the Gospel; all of these omissions are indicative that it is not a Mass of Sunday and that we are still awaiting the Resurrection. The "First" (and only) Mass of the Resurrection is that of Easter Sunday morning. Nowhere in Tradition did Easter ever have a "First Mass at Midnight" the way Christmas does, until such a novelty was invented in 1951-1955. The traditional and true nocturnal service of Easter is Paschal Matins and Lauds which begins the actual celebration of the Resurrection.

To celebrate the Easter Vigil, which in the ancient liturgical tradition of the Catholic Church takes place at night and not under the fullness of the noonday sun as shown here is an aberration. Unfortunately, this is an attempt by some traditional religious communities and others to reject any type of liturgical development or even restoration of a proper ancient usage. As a traditionalist, I applaud the 1955 liturgical changes particularly the restoration of the proper liturgical times.
@lehuynguyen11755 жыл бұрын
Giovanni Serafino No, it has been tradition in Roman rite for more than 1000 years to celebrate Easter Vigil in the morning of Holy Saturday. 1955 changes are of modernist, many people forget that Pope Pius XII had become sick after 1954 to the point he consider resigning, Bugnini and his company had taken advantage of this.
@Gratiamtuam3 жыл бұрын
The Easter Vigil has always been a Vesperal Mass, and if you were to 'truly' restore the timing it would still take place with reasonable light outside because Vespers is the evening prayer, not the night prayer of the church. The holy week reforms of 1955 removed first vespers of easter and changed the mass to a 'lauds' mass. The first mass of easter is Easter sunday, not the easter vigil. Even the Orthodox celebrate their easter vigil in the morning or afternoon of Holy Saturday. How can you call this a restoration of proper ancient usage when it totally disrupts the liturgical day? Don't forget there is the entire divine office which comprises the church's liturgy.
@giovanniserafino17313 жыл бұрын
@@Gratiamtuam no you are mistaken. The Easter Vigil was never a vespers service. It was always a Vigil which means it took place during the darkness of night . It included the singing of psalms, scriptures, baptisms, confirmation, the Mass of Easter and the reception of Easter Communion. It ended at sunrise with the singing of lauds. This is exactly how the apostolic fathers describe the celebration of Easter. Look it up! St Augustine “ We gather during the night and keep vigil for the resurrection.” The Orthodox have an earlier Vespers service, but the resurrection service takes place at midnight. While it no longer includes baptism and confirmation it is a Matin service (Vigil ) followed by the Easter Liturgy during the night. Lastly, the canonical hours need to be prayed at the proper time. It is absolute foolishness to sing about the setting of the sun as the sun is rising in the morning!
@Gratiamtuam3 жыл бұрын
@@giovanniserafino1731 The easter vigil is a vigil yes, but it is not the equivelant to the matins of easter. Resurrection matins in the west has it's own service. Are you really going to claim the easter vigil has never been a vesperal mass? The time of the service may well be later once it is dark, this I do not have any major objection to. But it is NOT the first mass of easter! What you describe is what was the calabration of resurrection matins, which was still a major celebration in the medieval western church. If you read modernmedievalism.blogspot.com/2015/04/Easter-Vigil-at-night.html you will see the description of a separate matins service. Lastly, if you'll claim it is foolishness to sing about the setting of the sun as the sun is rising in the morning, will you also concede that if the tenebrae services are celebrated at the proper hour named in the 1955 holy week reforms they will not be celebrated in darkness, losing the whole symbolism of tenebrae (meaning shadows)?
@giovanniserafino17313 жыл бұрын
@@Gratiamtuam it is extremely difficult dealing with people like yourself who find absolutely nothing wrong with singing Vespers, an evening service at sunset , at 7:00 a.m. The divine office is meant to sanctify the hours of the day at the proper time. You are like individuals who believe, despite the reality that 2 plus 2 equal 4 Insist, that 2+ 2,equal 140! How do you deal with such people? You reject the ancient liturgical traditions, and prefer to appeal to questionable monastic usages of the Medieval period which developed as abuses, and which during post Tridentine times became codified. For you the Church exists only from 1562 to 1955, Any liturgical practices or insights before or after has no meaning or significance because you have placed blinders on reason and history. In rejecting Liturgical history and proper liturgical development as Pope Benedict XVI speaks of, you are basically a protestant who likes Latin and incense and lives in a world of liturgical fantasy. People like you, give traditionalist a bad name ! I have nothing more to say!
