Many thanks, Peter - brought back many memories having used the 244 and subsequent services since 1970!

Another great video, Peter👍. For a bus driver and enthusiast timetables are always fascinating. I like the way they make it as a "summary of services", including selected number of services in the same area, in one timetable. But all the notes are a bit confusing 😮. As you say yourself, memories from the golden days. Before the tendered contracts, when we did all planning and scheduling by ourselfes in the local bus company.

Old timetables are endlessly fascinating. They did love their secret codes didn't they, with daggers, double daggers, T, Th, NTh, NS, NTThS, hearts, diamonds too and enigmatic notes like '♡ Not Thursdays or Saturdays except during Lent and the third Tuesday after Pentecost"

I still love the old timetable but sadly it’s all apps now and real time information. My app includes where the bus is, the type of bus (great for enthusiasts) and how busy it is. Back to the topic, timetables are like a crossword and great for the brain. Amazing that you couldn’t get to Ipswich until 07:10 especially as you say shift workers and early workers. Even computers were around, B seeing the last service leaving at 22:35 must of been great for the pub trade and nightlife. Great video insight Pete.

Fascinating stuff. I have a great interest in timetables, ending up as Schedules and Contracts Officer for a local employee owned (formerly municipal) until bought out by the big stripey, now beach ball, company. Revenge came a few years later when they were told they had breached monopolies and competion laws and had to sell it.

Great Video. I find it fascinating to see how timetables have changed(or not) over the years.

You mentioned that Ipswich has 4-day rotas. Just to be sure, drivers on 4-day rotas also get 28-33 days of annual leave right?
@BristolRE2 ай бұрын
I don't think so, long time ago now. But if they did they would get more time off than those on a 5 day week. Annual leave is working days only, so you'd only need 4 to take one week off, where-as a driver on a 5 day week would use 5 days to get one week off. So it's adjusted accordingly
@mohibj2 ай бұрын
@@BristolREso what I understand is there might be a 20% bonus, in other words 35-40 days
@BristolRE2 ай бұрын
@@mohibj No, 4 day week drivers have a reduction in days so they have the same amount of time off as those on a 5 day week
@mohibj2 ай бұрын
@@BristolRE So that must be 20% less, at around 21-26 days
