Today we are honoring a truck driver from Idaho Falls who helped some Colorado sheriff deputies earlier this month.
The deputies were stranded at a truck stop in Wyoming with a broken vehicle when Bill Johnson stopped for lunch. He noticed the situation and went over to help.
Bill ended up spending most of the day helping the deputies get back on the road and used his own money to pay for new car parts.
After the incident, the Eagle County Sheriff's Office shared the experience on their Facebook page and it went viral.
We decided to thank Bill for his kindness but he is on the road so we had to get creative. Watch the surprise in the video player above!

I've been driving over-the-road Coast-to-Coast for 31 years. 75% of us truck drivers out there are just like this man. We're just simple hard-working folks with families just like everybody else trying to make a living. And stay out of everybody else's way on the highway. That's all we are about. May God bless him for helping out because I'm sure one day the favor will be paid forward.

I've been a first responder for 33 years, and I can't count how many times a trucker has stepped up and helped when needed. Stand up folks who know how to fix things and also know how to help in an emergency. When I see trucks on scene, to me that means help is here and ready to do what they can.

Had a car stopped on the side of the road 20 meters from my home entrance, told the guy to back up into my driveway. One of the fittings of the coolant hose broke off. Called the parts store, ordered the part, wIted around 45 mins for the part to arrive, went and got the part, fixed it up and bled the system and sent him on his way. Guy offered me money but i enjoyed 100x more the satisfaction of helping out someone and telling them to pass it on.

Exactly! I once got questioned by an employer why I carry my tools with me etc when driving their trucks. I was astounded when they told me not to, but when that truck broke down and i was able to diagnose remove and replace the part fixing the problem 4 hours away from base, get back on the road and make it on time, the boss met me personally outside and apologised. He didnt have a clue about trucks and was blown away. Saved them thousands in towing or a callout. Thinking back on it now and how crap an employer they turned out to be, i kinda wish i hadnt fixed it and just sat there for hours eating lunch hahaha

Reminds me of back over 10 years ago. Was working maintenance at a car wash, and helped at the back end when nothing was broken. Gentleman came in with his family to have his suv detailed. They waited over an hour til it was done, and when it was finished, the detailer couldn't start it. We pushed it out into a parking space when they came n got me. I checked it out, and found the starter had failed. So I took the gentleman to a parts house, he bought a new starter (was making $7/hr so i couldn't buy it for him), and we went back. I climbed under with my tools, swapped them out, gave him the old one (so he could get the core charge back.. yes there was a core on the starter at this parts house), told him have a nice day, n got back to work. Didn't charge him. His wife and kids were stuck there with him and it was almost dinner time. Just wanted to make sure they weren't stuck. Don't thank me, or say good job. Dont need any attaboys to do the right thing. Was just sharing so people can see anyone can help someone.

Of course, it takes a big man to hold such a big heart. Pause the video at 1:30, and look at the two men. The Deputy on the right, the engine compartment opening is up to his armpits. I haven't had the opportunity to help a cop but I've helped the general public and even a couple truck drivers over the years. Why you ask. Because it's the right thing to do. Had a truck driver who's tool box had had the welds break holding it to his trailer and it was just barely still attached. He was trying to get it loose but then he would still have to lift up this 100 pound box high enough to get it on his flatbed trailer. I stopped to help and funny thing is I had tools in the car I normally don't carry and was able to use them to finish removing the box then helped him put the box on the trailer. He tried to pay me and I refused. Told him if he really wanted to pay me to donate something to a charity. He was very surprised I responded like that. Could I have used that money? Yes I sure could have but I didn't do it for the money. I have so many more tales but this isn't the place for them. My point is that if more people helped others like this selflessly this world would be a way better place.

The number of people I have helped and only two actually said thank you. I don't look for thanks, but the level of entitlement out there is mind boggling. Then just when I figure I won't be stepping up ever again I get a heartfelt thanks and I think maybe not everyone is bad. I actually gave someone a free dryer, took it to his house an hour away, and he complained that there was a scratch on top.

@@donnariggs1567 New Zealanders believe in science, love. They don’t depend on wishful thinking... New Zealand eradicated Covid within their borders without losing too many lives because they strictly followed the science, they shut down when their numbers went up, quarantined willfully, cooperated with contact tracing and got vaccinated with full compliance from their citizens. Imagine that, a country of people who rallied around one another, doing the right thing by following the science, all in an effort to save each other’s lives?!? We here in the USA don’t know that feeling, unfortunately. We claim love of country but yet we actively show that we hate our own fellow countrymen, don’t even care if they live or die. That doesn’t jive, it doesn’t work. The greatest experiment the world has ever known, The Untied States of America, is beginning to fail because the people in this country refuse to get off their own high horse, where they cling to these outlandish delusions of grandeur, and refuse to admit we can’t know what we don’t know and allow our world renowned experts to guide us properly. The amount of distrust and suspicion of education, science and medicine for half of our population in exchange for favor of wishful thinking (religion) and some weird cultish following of conservative politicians who don’t know WTF they’re talking about, is going to lead to our own demise. And we’ll deserve it.

I did a water pump R&R on the shoulder of hwy 2, 10 miles north of Red Deer, Alberta. The best part was the owner of the P/U truck was going to visit her sister, a pastor in Edmonton. She told the story explaining why she was late and her sister the pastor said "You know it's not right to lie." refusing to believe the story until the owners nephew retrieved the water pump core and sales slip from the P/U truck. I howled with laughter when I heard the pastors words.

I'm a retired Auto Repair Master Tech and I would help any stranded law enforcement Officer with his or her vehicle in this same manner. We can't do enough for these dedicated public servants. I believe thousands of Mechanics would do the same thing. A big thumbs up to the truck driver for his assistance. Great story. We need more good stories about our Police Officers not bad ones.
