QC, good materials and design are not limited to one brand, or one country. I say this having owned Martin, Gibson, Guild and now a Taylor. And played everything from Collings on down. For new acoustics under $2K Eastman has to be on the shortlist. They have some comp from Alvarez. Recording King, Blueridge, etc. Other than that you are looking at a good used guitar, and even those are expensive now for anything of quality. My Taylor 224ce-koa ran about $1,700 new a few a few years back, but apples and oranges since it is a koa grand auditorium, not a classic spruce and rosewood dreadnought.
