Eastman MD305 vs MD315 - BTM Guitars Demo

Wir vergleichen eine A-Style mit einer F-Style Mandoline. Alle Licks wurden direkt hintereinander aufgenommen und identisch mikrofoniert, die Mandolinen haben ausser der Bauform identische Spezifikationen.

Bought a 305 today and think I will love it once I grasp the frets and picking action.My main instrument is fiddle so there will definitely be an adjustment.

Danke für das interessante Video! Mir gefällt der etwas "muffigere", gedämpfte Sound der F-Style Mando auch sehr gut, aber der Preisunterschied ist schon heftig... Nachdem ich Anfang des Jahres mit einer (gebrauchten) Ibanez-Sperrholzmandoline mit diesem Instrument meine ersten Versuche gemacht habe, habe ich mir nun eine MD 305 bestellt - ich freue mich schon! Habe schon eine Eastman Parlor-Gitarre aus chinesischer Fertigung, die ist auch top verarbeitet und klingt sehr gut.

I prefer the F style I like the way it sounds. Plus I own a F style Eastman. I love it

This particular 305 sounds better to my ear than this particular 315. Looks-wise and sound-wise, I prefer my Eastman 304 (A style, oval hole) to both of them...

I bought the MD305 around 4 years ago because it seemed like a good option for a good price. I discovered it is a great option for a great price!

The Eastman 300 series is their best because they have the least finish on them. The high, glossy finish on most mandolins suppresses the vibrations of the soundboard, thus muting the volume output and the tone. Eventually, they break in. The 300 series from Eastman has only a dark, and very beautiful stain. These mandolins sound GREAT right out of the box! I have the md 305 and of the four mandolins I own, this is the best.

As a newbie to mando (two years), I had no knowledge of them other than knowing what sound I liked. I didn't have a lot money to spend, and researched for a few weeks, asking a lot of questions, etc... I settled on the 305 based on this video by Dennis at Mandolin Store: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opbVoX6ifp6bpZo I did have to change out the tuners for better ones, and I put in a K&K pickup. It's a great playing and sounding instrument. Nice, dry old-fashioned tone that's only getting better since I bought it.

Jamie Jones This is not true. In addition to the stain they are also sprayed with a satin nitrocellulose lacquer.

Do you happen to know the difference between the 300, 400, 500, etc up to 900 Eastman mandos? Is it mainly the wood used?

It is true. They have LESS finish than the others, not no finish. Also, they are constructed of solid wood. No pressed or laminated woods.

they sound sooo similar that it's doubtful many of us would even know which was which if we could not actually SEE the instrument? i mean, we hear what we expect to hear. so, based on looks alone, the MD305 looks sleek and elegant and seems to be the epitome of "less is more" while the MD315 with it's flamboyant scroll, elaborate headstock and little pointy thing on the bottom, appears pretentious and somewhat silly looking :)

nice playing and better chance to comparison! Just one thing: that g strings on the 305 weren't properly tuned (at least I felt that specially on the secong song). I wish you could do more comparisons videos!
