This was a clever technique. I liked this strategy. You should also tell people why you chose the colours to grey down or neautralize. They are the opposite colours on the colour wheel. ❤ loved your demo.

This was ine of the best tutorials I have seen for creating skin tone. It made so much sense. You explained everything!The ribbon value was amazing! Just what I needed - thank you so much!

Loooove this video! New tool for my toolbox, thank you! Can I ask why you use a bristle brush instead of a palette knife to make the hue/value strings?
@klakkinkittykat
@klakkinkittykat 3 жыл бұрын
..he said it's 'Cuz the hairs on the bristle brush make it easier to "load" more color on ...and its makes it much much easier to push around and manipulate :-o

Thank you so much for this video. I agree with Debbie that this will make things easier to recreate colours between sessions. Quick question though, can you suggest a colour range for painting children? I’m working on a portrait of my 7 month grandson and am struggling with the colours. Thank you in advance.

Thank you so much for this video! Your process is repeatable by someone who is new to portrait painting. I have been searching KZbin and my books for 2 weeks trying to figure out a basic repeatable process. I have tried mixing colors when I run out my painting is doomed because I cannot repeat the steps. The other videos go so fast and mix each color separately. Since I am not experienced enough, they are not helpful. Wow. My lucky night.

Thanks for this eye opener, great demo, clear and sound. Could you replace cobalt violet with mars violet ?
@wtlouie1
@wtlouie1 6 жыл бұрын
It seems that mars violet shifts all little too much to the read for me and not as quite chromatic but if you mixed it with ultramarine blue it may work.

I’ve enjoyed this lesson, thanks! Just a quick note: shouldn’t you say ‘black skin’ instead of ‘African skin’? Because the whole of North Africa is mainly inhabited by relatively pale people... and there’s a relevant percentage of black people in other continents which were not born in Sub-Saharan Africa, like in the US?

I use gamblin's "black skin base tone" for my portraits of Africans. They've gotten a lot of flack over the name, so they'll be renaming it "black flesh-tone". I for one am glad they're taking the issue seriously.

Has the whole planet gone narcissistic? I think people are getting offended way too easily. The name change is still the same thing. Whats next, march and riot?! People are finding the stupidest things to complain about or use as an excuse to display and exercise their anger. People like that usually have a problem with the whole world and everything else in it. It must suck walking on egg shells when you have your own life to live. I have respect for my fellow earthlings but to those that expect others catering to them when they don't show the same respect back?!... tough bananas!!

ACM or aluminum composite material a common brand name would be Dibond or alupoly. Good question. Sorry I wasn't clear.

Man, you can achieve that only with the three primary colors plus dark umber and white.

@klakkinkittykat
@klakkinkittykat 3 жыл бұрын
yea but using a limited pallet gives you limited color range and thus a limited effect..this palette adds more variety in color range making the skin tones appear more vibrant instead of dull and lackluster ..meow.

What the fuck are you on about? He's talking in generalities, you moron. It's up to the painter and the individual model in the end, but he's showing you a START. same with white people palettes. . Jesus christ.
