Easton Carbon EC90 SL Crankset on a Brompton - 781 Project - DIY Brompton Crankset Installation

As an Easton fanboy, I would really like to integrate their parts if I can to our beloved Brompton, riding this setup for 5 months now and so far I am very happy with the performance, something different from THM and EEwing which are all great and looks lovely with Brompton.
Replacing my ever-reliable Token Titanium Ceramic Bottom Brackets and Brompton original crankset with 56T Ridea oval chainrings with a total of 760 grams, this is still my backup setup if this project doesn't work, I am always happy to put this back just in case.
One of the challenges in installing Easton EC90 SL is having to find a lightweight spider and chainrings as it comes with CINCH technology, which is the same for Raceface cranksets, checked with Fiberlyte, Lightworks but due to low demand they are not doing carbon chainrings for Easton Cinch in bigger chainrings the only one willing to help that can customize a carbon chainring with spider is Digirit but they do not do oval in this size, Binghambuilt has a 110BCD spider for Easton but it also comes in alloy 67g which is more than the original Easton spider, since I am very happy with my old Ridea 56T oval chainrings I ordered the 4 bolt 110BCD version and partnered it with Easton alloy spider, combined weight is around 210 Grams with 4 Ridea chainring bolts which is not that much, since I know and tested Ridea chainrings I did go for this setup and still happy I did.
Below are the items installed in this 781 project.

It is a preload collar from this Easton EC90SL crankset, basically you can adjust this have the right amount of space of your non drive side crank arm.

Hi Beining, this Brompton is the first edition CHPT3, to be honest we have not seen a P line yet to answer your question, if we have a concrete answer then we’ll let you know.

it looks like a 170mm crankarm. Is the 172.5mm also good for Brompton?

Hi Chang, yes you are right it is a 170mm crank arm, it really depends on the rider’s preference but 172.5mm will also work for Brompton.

How much does your Brompton weigh at this point, with all the mods you've done? I just ordered a ridea 50t oval chainring to go with my Ti Parts Workshop Titanium bottom bracket/ crank/spider. At 130mm BCD, it should fit my 130mm BCD TPW spider. It says Ridea chainrings can only be used with a Ridea crank/spider. Is this true? THANKS!

To be honest I dont weigh my bike but I think it will be around 8kg somewhere around that before and now its 120 grams lighter. Ridea chainrings 130 BCD will fit any spider as long as its 5 holes 130 BCD. Thanks for watching FEMA!

@@781BromptonPremiumParts 8kg, wow. Thank you for answering about the crank/chainwheel. I thought so, but wanted to ask someone who knows more. I also could not get my hands on any JK carbon wheels, but I did get in touch with a company called SMC, who also makes carbon wheels. I ordered a set of c349-38-25 carbon rims, 3k weave, gloss finish, for $433 usd.

Hi can i check if the crankarm will hit the tensioner when the bike is folded? How many spacers did u use at the bb and spindle respectively?

Hi, with this setup it doesnt hit the crank with the tensioner when folded, no spacer in BB as Ridea doesnt advice, we have a spacer with the spindle, 2x 2mm spacer from Ridea Carbon BB.

Hey Mark, so far we are happy with the performance, BB30 makes a big difference and the stiffness of the cranks are perfect, light with the simple design makes it looks good on our Brompton, no issue with pedal alloy thread, HAPPY!

Is the center axle long enough so that it won't rub the frame when folded? I want to use SRAM DUB any suggestions

Hi, yes, it is perfect that it doesnt rub to the rear triangle when folded. We have not tried SRAM DUB, my advice is to get a lot of research before execution, good luck and give us a buzz when you completed the project!

For this setup, we cannot use the Token BB, but we can use that with any other square-type cranks.

The bottom bracket not smooth. You should upgrade the bottom bracket first 🤣

Cranks don't have to spin freely, but they should spin smoothly by hand with no binding. The number of times a crankset will spin is more of a function of bearing seals than the bearings themselves, using Ridea Carbon bottom brackets with ceramic bearings. If the bottom bracket was already used, it should spin reasonably well. Bottom brackets don't have to just spin to a silly degree because it's all about how they perform when loaded, not unloaded like in your spin test.
