Hello Heath, I didnt remember what splitter he said he had when he said he'd bring it by and closer to the date I asked and I was like WHOA! We're both right off the 401 in east Toronto, an hour and change off of your direct route through Niagara Falls to Boonville. Have you been to the Canadian side of the falls? Option B is to continue touring heading east from us along Lake Ontario to NY state. Not much to see until you get to the east end of the lake and explore the big bay, the historic town of Kingston and cross the St. Lawrence at the border. I'm always up for woodhound get togethers!, not many live here and are far between.

Nice video and thanks to both of you for showing your 37D in action, it powered through everything. I'm looking forward to seeing your next video using the 8-way wedge. I also have a 37D and it's been a strong dependable machine for our mobile wood splitting business here in Oregon. I'd like to add the Eastonmade guys have been helpful to answer any questions and the machine is very well designed other than the trailer. Your comments about towing were important and useful. We tow our machine regularly and it would be a huge improvement to have a better trailer platform and dedicated axle. Maybe someday they'll offer that as an option for those of us who do a lot of towing in our business model. We recently purchased a Wolfe Ridge 35SHO with Kubota diesel because it comes on a "better" trailer. And for sure, it has more stability, tows better and feels safer. We need to use it for a while to better compare the splitting power and abilities of both splitters. Thanks for the video, the 37D is a fantastic machine, Scott

Hey thanks Scott. They really have something good going on over there at Eastonmade. I have a couple SpeeclCo single wedge splitters and I bring them to jobs to split all over Toronto and luckily I can put the machine right in my truck so I don't have to worry about towing as well. If I'm going close by, I'll tow it with my personal vehicle. Thanks for watching!

love that machine, downsides are the wood falls on ground without a conveor and you have to produce, season and deliver roughly 60 full chords untill she makes you a penny. the guy with the ax makes a slower cord but he also makes a profit in his 2nd or so cord produced. alot of you guys seem to ingnore net profit. you are one of the few who deffinatly understands. i think somewhere in the middle ground is the sweet spot... cheers from massachussetts

You are right, a lot of equipment adds up in cost. I think James is an enthusiast who just splurged on a toy (not for business) so he's got no other expenses. I sold my conveyor which I wouldn't need 4 times a year at most the put the 6 cords in the 40 yard bin. Otherwise, I'd need it for 5 or 10 minutes once or twice a week. I got rid of my old skid steer too. It needed a motor but even if it was running, its just more to fix. I have three splitters, 2 trucks. Saw, wheelbarrows, shop, yard, plus living on my own. I'm used to covering many bases, but it's incessant financially and time wise. Even taking the time to buy gloves, fill up the gas can, buy parts, research solutions, tweak tools: it all gets to me. It's never just work, work, work, I have two uncles living in Massechusetts! I used to visit regularly. Cheers!

Same here. I'd have to do big advertising. My sales have always been somewhat relative to my inventory Hopefully University Forewood shuts down if they dont sell. They do 6 figures in sales every year and they get their wood from the Mennonites. The owner called me for a scrap metal pickup and ibsaid i couldnt make it because i was delivery the 40 yard bin with 6 full cords and then she brought up the sale of the business. Thanks man. You too.

Thats was awesome James finally made it to your yard. Hopefully James can make it out to our yard this spring or summer and I can test out that beast. As for that line that's to big on yours. You can get restriction fittings for it that just slow the flow down. Might be a cheaper option then changing the whole line.

Is this a brand new 2023 model? It's missing the large hydraulic intercooler. Looks like they downsized it so tiny that it's in front of the radiator? That isn't going to perform the way the larger stand alone cooler w fan was. That's dissapointing, especially at these price points. There is such a lag in lead time that it seems impossible to.know what your going to get exactly by the time it's delivered.
@OntarioFirewoodResource
@OntarioFirewoodResource Жыл бұрын
This is probably a 2022 model, Ask James Bainton in the comments about it, he knows best. Thanks for watching.
@jamesbainton
@jamesbainton Жыл бұрын
It is a 2022 model - but I don't think they really have a model year. The 37D and 24D run a piston pump which means that they already run cooler. So, I suspect that after the first few, they determined that the hydraulic intercooler wasn't required on these units. That would be a question for Andrew. However, I can say - the hydraulic tank doesn't ever really heat up that much and is only a little bit warm to the touch even after running it for extended periods.

Just wondering how much you charge for mobile splitting and how you advertise? I just bought a 12/22 and think I may try and get some work for my son this summer. I think $50/hr and he kicks back 10 to me for use of my machine.
@OntarioFirewoodResource
@OntarioFirewoodResource Жыл бұрын
I myself rent out my SpeeCo for 100 per day dropped off and pickup up. I charge 50 Canadian (37 US?) when I do the splitting. My splitter is slow so you can get much more money than that. Not sure if James will get notified of your comment, bit message him saying that you asked a question in this comment section. Thanks for watching
@jamesbainton
@jamesbainton Жыл бұрын
@@clarkharms I typically charge $200 for the first three hours onsite (fixed rate). I try to only drive a max of 50km one way so it cuts down on travel time, etc. Then, $75 each hour after the 3 hours. I also try to give a firm price - people seem to prefer that. So, if I think the job will take 4hrs, then I will quote something around $275-300 depending on whether there is anything that will make it a PITA. Some things that would add extra time is that if I have to do any cutting, and moving of wood, or how much cleanup I would likely need to do once done splitting. That is roughly how I charge.

Great machine! An observation, if I may, the 4 way wedge splits awkward. It’s as if the stroke of the cylinder isn’t long enough or maybe the horizontal blades should be welded closer to the vertical splitting edge. Seems like you are always trying to pull apart the pieces you split. It’s a 37 ton machine with a diesel. Should do a more complete split. Just an observation, not a criticism. Cheers!
@OntarioFirewoodResource
@OntarioFirewoodResource Жыл бұрын
Yes it is! I've noticed the trend of putting some of the blades further back. I'm pretty sure that it's because you wanna spread out that pressure so that it pushes smoother and separates different parts of the round at different times. Also. How it should be ran is that the next round pushes out whatever is still lodged in the blades. The second man pulling them out is just getting ahead of the game. Thanks for watching.
@DaleFarrish
@DaleFarrish Жыл бұрын
Most of the big fast machines are designed for pushing into a conveyor. so the next round pushed it out. Anthony is also right that setting them back makes for easier pop open. Another reason is so that the round stays stuck inline in the wedges until the next round applies pressure to it to push it straight thru the wedge. Otherwise the splits will sometimes flip back around and you have to stick your hand in to move them out of the way. That's why you see people grabbing splits out of the splitter all the time. Its a dangerous spot to put your hand and really no need as the next round will push it threw. I find that it's mostly new people or when you have too much help that they do this. Us one man shows are too tired to grab every split off the wedge.
