how is this a baritone guitar? It's a short scale bass.

@@nasticanasta Um… no idea really as it’s not my area of expertise. As far as I understand, ‘baritone’ seems to refer to a range of notes between regular guitar and bass, necessitating a scale length between regular electric guitar and traditional electric bass hence the 26” scales length and thicker strings. In reality, being only 0.5” longer in terms of scale length than a Strat this is closer to a guitar than it is a bass.

I don’t know what it is but it’s not tuned like a bass

The pickups look high, rear pick-up very high, enough so to cause issues with string rattle maybe?

I don't think so... but when they are very close they can create strange 'double note' tones for sure.
