I made this with the leaves and it works. Suggestion: put a trident killer at the bottom so you can go truly afk. No looting but I’m across town and I’m still getting shells tridents copper and exp. Item sorter doesn’t hurt anything either

Not sure why, but spawn rate is really slow. On bedrock, v1.19. I get anywhere from 2-4 drowned per evening cycle. Sim distance set to 4, put leaves up, and no other farms nearby. Any thoughts as to why the spawn rate is so low?

This definitely works, it's just not as fast as I anticipated. It took me about 1hr to build on a screen. Then I literally sat there a whole night and got one trident. Note that I have Looting III. I'll go get some leaves.

It is because on more than 4 chunks you can render the ocean floor below you causing the drown to spawn down there not in your farm.

I recommend lowering your render distance to as low as you can since there will be less ocean shown to be able to spawn drowned.

I would just like to mention if you are doing this in survival it will take around 32 stacks of leaves to completely cover the top cuz 16 stacks is only enough for the outer rim

Quick tips to help increase spawn rates 1. Build this farm over a gravel bottom ocean biome this is where most drowned spawn 2. Build this farm near an ocean ruin for some reason there are always drowned near an ocean ruin 3. Look for a place with the conditions of tips 1&2 this made my farm pretty overpowered compared to just picking a random location

It would seem the AFK platform is in the wrong height, I went 45 blocks above it, and only then did it start dropping drowned. This could be just an Xbox thing or a consul thing for all I know. But if you were AFK from 108 anywhere down even with lighting up the ocean floor it doesn’t seem to work.

My understanding of bedrock simulation rules (@4) is mobs spawn between 24-44 blocks away from the player. Things happen up to 65 blocks away like farms growing, if mobs are more than 44 blocks away they will despawn i.e your moving away from them. In a static position not moving like this farm they just won’t appear. Java simulation distance (regular) is 6 which offers mob spawns between 24-128 so should work fine for that version. So yes just build the farm lower.

I saw your second question from the KZbin notification but for some reason it doesn't show here, so I'll answer just in case. Drownded (or most mobs in Minecraft) only spawn at light 0 (doesn't matter if it's daytime or nighttime). So yeah, if you want them spawn at day then you must block the light. The problem is light not only come from top, it also come from the sides, that is why you see from the video he cover the top with leaves, addition 7 more lines outside because it also work as block light by sides (without those extra lines the farm ineffective at daytime). The reason he use leaves because they not only block the light at day, they also prevent normal mobs spawn on top at night. However I think it's better if you cover the sides with leaves wall instead those 7 extra lines for less resources and effort. I don't know why he said it only need 16 stacks of leaves, as I count from the video the leaves platform must be 45x45=2025 blocks (about 32 stacks). If you only cover the top as 31x31=961 blocks, and 4 walls by sides as 29x3x4=783 blocks, then it only cost 1744 blocks (about 28 stacks). Though leaves not that hard to collect so doesn't really matter. Please notice this farm design only work in Bedrock edition, it doesn't work in Java edition:

Because in Bedrock edition, slabs can't block light, so you must use full Cobblestone block but that mean other mobs can spawn on top too, so less Drowned can spawn. It still work normal in day time, however why use Cobblestone? Leaves is easy to collect.

Dude! You can use leaves to reduce the level of sanctification for round-the-clock productivity (these blocks don't prevent drowned spawning, although they do block light)
