You are a fabulous cook!! Your family is blessed 💕we call that cooker a roaster- and when I lived in Central PA the older women called those DELICIOUS beans “Calico Beans”- not sure if it was a local or family thing that sort of caught on and then everyone in the area started to call them Calico beans - they are SOOOOO good!!!! I remember growing up our favorite chocolate cake recipe was one we called Betty D’s chocolate cake ( my moms friend)…. That recipe has been passed all over the country by the same name and probably has a “real” name!😂😂😂😂😂

I’m sure you’re not suppose to recommend to someone water bathing the baked beans. But is that something prior to your pressure cooker would you have water bathed? Would you have water bathed for the 3 hours since it’s a low acidity food? And something like would you add additional salt for the preservation? I’d love to can something like this (probably minus the ground beef) but I only have access to water bathing.

I feel like my family digests beans better if they are soaked first. Out of a can or canned dry, I feel like it shortcuts the natural order of things. Maybe that's why it seems more difficult for us to digest.

I have been making those beans for many many years. I take it to just about every picnic get together over the summer. We call it cowboy grub, or calico beans. Either way, they are always a HUGE hit. My boys LOVE to top their hotdogs with it I save all my veggie ends and peels and make veggie broth. I use that to make the cream of mushroom soup. I love home made cream soups
@AdalineZook Жыл бұрын
Yes! That is what his grandma called them calico beans ☺️
@cack121 Жыл бұрын
also, please dont encourage others to reuse lids. It has nothing to do with them being punctured. If you check a new lid, you will see that the seal is soft and larger than those on used lids A new lid softens and flows slightly to cover the jar-sealing surface and that wont be there on the second use. If you want to reuse lids, look into tattler lids. Those are made to be reusable.
