A handsome table. I like the dark color but before watching this I would never have thought of using ebony stain as a prep . Nice job.

I wouldn't have thought the ebony would turn out that brown. It looks really good!
@Wordsnwood9 жыл бұрын
+Bruce A. Ulrich If you try it yourself, be sure and test it... I think in real life it is a bit more smokey looking . It does look a touch less brown than the video, IMHO.

+wordsnwood Good tips. I'm more of a medium brown guy like Early American.

I think this is one of your nicest projects so far. I like that the ebony gave it a chocolate color in the end.

You used dowels to attach the rails to the legs. Why use screws for the spindles instead of another dowel joint? Just curious. It's a very nice piece and your finish is exceptional, IMO. Thanks for sharing.
@Wordsnwood Жыл бұрын
I don't recall any specific reason. The screws are pretty simple and easy to use, and almost completely hidden.

That table looks great! I have seen that ebony stain a few times and have always wanted to try it, but too scared it'll come out too dark. After seeing this I might just give it a try! Thanks for the video!

+The College Woodworker I figured it was a fairly cheap gamble -- $10 for a small can of stain. And I almost always have a box of scrap wood offcuts laying around to test it on. Unfortunately in the store they only show it to you on pine or red oak (at least around here) so you MUST test it at home with your wood and your finishing regimen. Thanks for the comment!

Nice job! Did you consider wood movement for this table build? A newbie, sorry!
@Wordsnwood3 жыл бұрын
I sure did. The top is attached with table mounting clips, so it is free to expand/contract with the seasons and not be constrained by the base. The shelf is also attached with screws and that gives it some ability to move.

Hi. very nice project. Why didn't you use pocket holes to attach the top?
@Wordsnwood9 жыл бұрын

hey awesome video I just made a hall table for my channel but haven't edited it yet,I was going to use dowols so tried to make a hardwood jig with no success, I couldn't get it to work accurately enough so I went with the kreg jig.Where did you get your dowel jig?
@Wordsnwood9 жыл бұрын
+BCdesign I use a dowelmax jig. I've owned it for quite a while. It's pricey, but very well designed. Jessem also make a good jig. I was going to give you an amazon link, but I see you're in Ireland. Oh wait, it's on amazon.uk and even in a metric format: www.amazon.co.uk/Dowelmax-Classic-Metric-Kit/dp/B003VUSMR4/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1445296664&sr=8-1&keywords=dowelmax

I'm now confused about the colour. The shots in the end show a brownish appearance. I did really like the greyish black. I know it is an old video, still enjoyed it.
@Wordsnwood7 жыл бұрын
Never trust youtube for colour! All I can suggest is to always test finish on scrap to see if you like it. (but yes, it is an older video, and no I am not a super photographer!)
