HALLELUJAH!!!.. I am sooo confused! I've given myself the hardest math thing I've ever had to do, everyone wants to give me advice of better ways to do what I'm physically trying to do (which is fine, but I'm not "leaving cardboard fibres in the wax which will cause a secondary wick effect..", I've figured out how to do what I'm trying do without setting my family and friends houses on fire for goodness sake!).. I just needed help with the math! AND HERE IT IS!!! WAX = V H2O x .86!!! (I dont suppose you have a conversion for weight of sand to wax, do you? Please? Asking too much? No worries, understanable. 😂😂😂) You Sir, are an absolute GODSEND! ❤

New candle maker here, thank you ×'s a million. Question: Am I supposed to subtract the weight of the vessel when weighing the water?
@manorhouse35562 жыл бұрын
Great point! I would because you are figuring out the NET WEIGHT ... The weight of what's inside the vessel. You can just tare the vessel out on your scale and continue with your process. 🙂

Great video! When calculating your fragrance oil is it the same formula when finding how much to use for essential oils?
@StandleyHandcrafted2 жыл бұрын
Essential oils are very different and not really meant for candles but if you do use them the formula's would be the same. You would alter the oil percentage though.
@kionscott6084 Жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff. I have a question about fo percentage. How can you get 10%fo load if you are using the 1ounce sample bottle from a company like Flaming Candle Company or Candle Science?
@islandstar897411 ай бұрын
I’m using coco apricot so the wax can hold up to 10 %. I’m using memory box candle co formulas. So my 9oz jar really holds 7oz. So 7oz =198 grams. So with her formula. I have to take 198 divide it by 110%= 180. So now I need 180 grams of wax. In order to find the 10% FO. I have to minus the 198-180=18. N I will need 18 grams of FO which will be the 10%. So that is where I got the 18 from. But when I make a custom blend with 3 FO the candle is sweating. What did I do wrong ?
Does it really take 0.8-1oz of fragrance oil for one 10oz candle..?? That seems like an extraordinarily massive amount. I mean, maybe it's because I'm not used to the fragrance oils, but I have a 1oz bottle of pure lavender oil, and a few drops makes an entire room smell like lavender. My first shipment of materials is coming today, but I'm still trying to determine how much of each oil to buy to make a few candles with that scent - and one 1oz bottle making 2 candles or less seems crazy to me. The cost per candle for fragrance seems so high, especially if you're not doing larger batches.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. I have a question. I m new to this and I make candle as a hobby so mostly for me and my family. The first few candle they small great but recently I made a strawberry candle and you can hardy smell it. I m using soy wax and 10% oil. I combined my way and oil when wax is at 180 degrees, any tips. Should I use a bigger oils %. Same problem with the oil and wax melts, no smell. Thank you so much

From where you can see the percentage of FO? Mine it says from 6-10%. How to know which percentage to use?
@StandleyHandcrafted Жыл бұрын
This is where testing comes into play big time. Certain wicks will handle lower percentages better and some handle higher percentages. I have always stuck right around 8% and have good luck all the way around.

this is confusing, why is it not just to multiply the total weight by the percent. Example - 300g times .1 or 10%= 30. Then subtract 30g by 300g which equals 270g for the wax weight and 30 for fragrance load. When you divide you get a different number (272.2g wax 27.2g FO) which is not 100% accurate. without a calculator 30 is 10 percent of 300 so why is it nobody does it that way. Im only going by past math from school, I don't know if wax makes the calculations different, but I would think it wouldn't matter?
@RollerCoasterPsycho Жыл бұрын
NeverMind I was didn’t understand what the percent was being taken from, I thought the fragrance oil percentage was for the total amount not for the actual wax u need. Very hard to wrap ur head around and some websites from fragrance companies like the flaming candle tell u differently but I get it now.
