I was talked into the idea that I had a story to write based on something I had put together for a chat profile. I started working on the story and soon found that I needed some backstory. My attempt at writing what I started out thinking would be a paragraph or two of the story of how my protagonist came into being. I hit a chapter of backstory and had only gotten his mother away from her people and still had to get her to where she would meet his father. I think I will try this template and see if it helps with my writing.

I like the idea of this but whenever I think about my character in more complex terms, I freeze up. I don't know why.

give this a shot! try doing some brainstorming and see where it takes you. it might be the fear of making a decision and committing to it that's holding you back, but if you try to turn it into a game and give yourself more options, it might be easier
