You go into the post of the stitch and move up the same way It’s called a waistcoat stitch or knit stitch

You will just work a row of sc into your chains or a row of fsc. Row two and beyond is worked like this, as the waistcoat stitch, split sc, etc (several names for it). You work between the legs or bars at the base of the stitch. You don't work around them like with a post stitch but, as shown here, between the two legs.

Please note that to get this effect, it works better in the round, rather than per row. The other thing is, if your work is usually tight, to make your single crochet large. The first row is a standard single crochet in a chain stitch.

Agreed…I have tried this waistcoat stitch in flat rows, and it doesn’t look like this :-). I’m wondering how she’s getting her rows in the body of the bag, to look so consistent to a Tunisian stocking knit stitch. No matter how I try..it’s not looking like this 😂 Any ideas?

Finally, someone who works with their hands whose nails reflect that instead of these long, gussied up nails for baking bread and crocheting, etc.. These are nails that I can relate to. LOL That almost looks like a tulip hook but the handle looks a bit dark. Keeping a loose tension is everything for this stitch.

Just regular chain and single crochet for the first row then you work into the v of the stitch like the vid shows for the 2nd row and every row after that

Nice way to mimic knit stitches. Looks good. But not as stretchy as knit, but it is thicker. So if you dont want it stretchy, then this is great!

I like this look. As people say you can only achieve this look if you are working on the same side throughout the whole project. I would then work it like a mosaic piece and only work on one side, and yes that means you have to start a new row from the right each time. I may try this and use lots of beautiful colors, or get a variegated yarn. You could keep the "fringe" you'll have on the sides or do a double layered border.
