Just found this & loved it. Reminds me of Foxfire from the early 70's. Great memory. Tks. Subbed

Cool video. You can also rub a piece of wood against the rock to polish it, if you wanted to.

You can't beat a stone bearing block, that's for sure. I just use a dremel on regular stone, works great. I think the one thing that matters is finding stones that will make for a smooth divot, but yours are definitely self-lubricating.

Thank you very inspiring

looks like shale or slate. Very soft. Normal rocks can't be cut with a knife.

nice work and a great idea haven't seen this before and I've watched a lot of bow drill videos, if you wanted to stick to tradisonal methods indians used sharp point of quartz on a shaft like and arrow to drill holes, and it looks like slate to me but soap stone would be a good choice also maybe better because of the oils in soap stone may act as a lubricant

Cool Idea. Lots of those stones around my home anyway :-) Don't know what they are called or what they contain exactly. Always thought some kind of iron oxyd. But not sure about it.

For no power tools it takes a lot of time to get one .I am lazy ,if i had to do a bunch i would just use a mason bit and drill to do 95% of the work.

It does take a bit to carve out, and a fair amount of elbow grease. I thought it was good fun though. I've made some jewelry from these type rocks also, that's what gave me the notion to make a bearing block. A mason bit would be just the trick. I'm going to pick me up on of those.

Masonry drill too much like common sense? 🤷♂️

That would be perfect I'm sure. I just didn't have one. Also, I 2as thinking about something most everyone has access to. You can get the utility knifes with the break away blades for 50 cents at walmart. You could probably do some wicked stuff with a masonry bit.

@@ChrissyOutYonder I think most folks have masonry drill bits and a drill lying about somewhere at home. I think maybe an 8 or 10mm bit without the hammer setting would be perfect. Well done to you though, pretty good going with no drill. 👍
