I thought it was an outstanding video to begin with, but what really impressed me was that this man took the time to answer all of the questions below. Big thumbs up. Not a hugely important question here, but do you have any idea roughly how much time assembly should take with the wood cut already for someone who is not mechanically inclined?

@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 жыл бұрын
Yep and that 8,000 lb is at the point of failure since a vertical 2x4 can hold 1,000 lb at failure point So I would figure the safety rating on this would be about half of that at 4,000 lb, which is still about the weight of a car 😆

I do have a question! How would you go about adding a shelf and some plywood doors/covering the frame? Could you simply cut the plywood to size and screw them in? (Coverings) And for the Shelf, would you need 2x4 frame for them or could you use more plywood?
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 жыл бұрын
Your welcome, and just you could just cut the plywood and screw it into the frame if you needed to build a shelf to hold extra weight you could cut some shorter 2x4s and install it that way as well.

Your earlier stand build video made me want to build a riser/drawer to put under my 20 long and 10 gal tanks which are about the same height. They're on a sturdy wood credenza now, which is kind of low, and even sitting you don't get the full picture, hence my desire to build a riser for them and incorporate drawers, just because, you know, DRAWERS. LOL you can never have enough drawers especially with the plethora of tools and supplies needed for this hobby :-D

1:55 that’s funny. I’ve tried to get some 2x4’s cut at Home Depot and lowes. At both places they completely ignored me. I remember waiting around for someone to come help me for near an hour at the home depot. I went to the cashier and told her I needed assistance there. She called for assistance at wood cutting, and then I ended up waiting another 30 minutes until I stopped an employee. He told me “can’t you see they’re all busy right now”. And I left. Similar experience at lowes
@peterh5417
@peterh5417 Жыл бұрын
Same story, I went to both of those locations and they refused to make any cuts to length, even when offered money. Unfortunately these hardware stores are full of employees who only stay for ~6 weeks before quitting, nobody wants to be there which I understand completely, but it really affects the customer experience. I'm totally out of luck as no store in town would make the cuts for me.

I'm really tempted to try this because the metal stand I bought for my 20 gallon long is wobbly and I can't afford to buy another stand. If I am able to borrow a drill from someone and have home depot cut the wood right, I could totally do this myself. I'm worried I'd haul all that wood home on the bus with pieces cut wrong and since I have no access to saws will be sol with that wobbly metal stand. :(

Don't waste your time at Home Depot getting the wood cut! Ijust bought my 2x4's at Home Depot. I had them cut all the pieces for me. They said they usually do not do precise cuts, but because they were slow the guy took the time to cut them for me. One problem, the guy was NOT precise at all. I measured and marked all the pieces and his cuts were off by at least a quarter inch on several pieces, some are too long and some too short. I should have just did it myself at home with my circular saw, because that's basically what I'll be doing - trimming down the ones that are too long and cutting new pieces to replace the ones that are too short (which I had to buy a couple more 2x4's for).
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 жыл бұрын
Wow that's a shame, shows a real lack of customer service and competence on the stores end, I'm sorry that happened to you. If the store is willing to cut the wood there is no reason they can't cut to the sizes requested.

Hello I’m a bit confused on how you got the 15 1/4” and 23” part from. Would it not be 14 1/4” and 22”? Because the wood is 2x4 it would be 18 1/4” - 4” (bc of the wood it’s attached to) and 30” - 8” (bc of the wood it’s attached to). I am trying to scale it to my measurements and want to make sure I don’t mess it up (my measurements are L:24 1/2” W:13” & H: 30”).

Essentially you would build it the same way but add vertical braces every two feet across the front and back as well as cross braces every two feet on the top and bottom shelves of the stand, general construction code has two by fours rated at a thousand pounds at the point of failure for each vertical 2x4

Hey i have a 5 gallon its temporary, but the water is cloudy and the fish sits at the bottom we also replace one gallon Once a week how could we fix that, And improve the water? We also have a 10 gallon we replace a gallon Once a week as well. But the fish float, On top of the tank alot what should we do?
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 4 жыл бұрын
For the 5 gallon aquarium it sounds like the nitrogen cycle isn't fully established since you have a bacterial bloom making the water cloudy, test the water and make sure you're not getting any ammonia or nitrite spikes which would be causing injury/stress to the fish. For the 10 gallon if the fish are staying up near the top Make sure that you have enough surface agitation so that gas exchange can happen many times when fish float near the surface it's because they're struggling to get oxygen.

Hello; I have been watching your videos for a while ( almost a year) now on how to build a stand I have a 55 gallon tank that I got of FB marketplace; very good price; but haven’t been able to set it up due to not having a stand; and a filter; so basically my question is what is a good model you have built that you would recommend w/ doors and a good filter as well. I have turtles (2) not fish tho

Excellent work! Do you think a stand based on this design,48 inches square, could support a 350 gallon water tank? That's about 3000 pounds. I'm trying to build a stand for my rain water tank. It would be 1.5 to 2 feet off the ground . Thanks for any feedback you may have!
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 жыл бұрын
It should hold, but make sure you use enough verticle supports and add extra screws for stability and additional shear strength, I have one designed a little different that is holding 225 gallons with stacked tanks and could hold way more

The future videos could you write it with a sharpie or a magic marker so you can see it on the video or at least put it into the description and make it easier for us I had to watch the whole video and figure out how many boards you use for each part also it's not eight two by fours that are holding up the weight it's 12 you have four corners times three!! And thanks for posting the video

Hi, such an impressive build. I’m going to be building a stand for my half moon 190L (about 50 g I think). If I made a stand like this, (rectangle) can I then cut a curved panel from a wood panel to put on the top with the edges hanging over for the tank to sit on? Probably no more than 2-3 inches overhang. Is overhang ok on this size tank? 🇦🇺❤️

Ok, I think I screwed up royally. I was at the big box store getting the lumber. In talking with the guy he suggested pressure treated wood since it might get wet from time to time. Made since at the time but then I get home and see that this may be a bad idea. Anyone have any advice?
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 жыл бұрын
You can technically still use pressure treated, It's just been chemically treated so that it will withstand constant moisture exposure in outdoor environments. It may smell for a while until it dries out though.

For what you want I would follow this build that I did instead, All you have to do to modify it is increase the middle pieces from 10.5 to 15.5 to accommodate the 18-in depth versus the 12-in depth from 55 gallons. 2x4 construction would still be suitable for this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fn7NpHekmLSFrM0

Weight will vary depending on the type of wood but about 30-40lbs, and 2x3 would work too but load capacity would be reduced

I just made mine! But unfortunately it has a slight wobble. I took extra care to make sure the top and bottom pieces were level, but after assembly one corner still lifts up slightly. I've read alot about tanks breaking because their stands aren't level, how much do I have to worry about this? Would a wood shim be strong enough to level it? What about heavy duty leveling feet? Thank you for the amazing video!
@TrafishAquatics

As long as the top sits flush with the tank then a shim will work perfectly fine
