Hey @Heather. In the world of building stuff free-standing means separate from other structures, e.g. - not attached to the wall of the house. I promise I didn't make it up... from the dictionary... "free-standing (adjective) - not attached to or supported by another structure." Cheers.

Very elegant, Adam. If I am digging into ground that is almost totally clay, do I need to be using post holes as wide as yours to achieve the same sort of rigidity? I plan on digging to a depth of 450mm, so only 400mm of the 2.4m post is in the ground, which is what you've done, from what I can see. High winds are not common where I am, so not too concerned about it acting like a big sail......

If it’s not a wind risk & you have stable clay soil that should be fine Sean.
