Thank you! I’ve been interested in getting into concrete. It seems like a very accessible hobby. I strongly desire to make benches for us, family and friends for their patios.
@creatingconcrete2 жыл бұрын
I spent a little while experimenting with benches. I tried making 3 piece units that keyed together, and also one piece shaped kind of like an arch. They are heavy, of course, but so long as you choose a design which has a stable base you should be able to design something that will not fall and hurt someone. I went from benches to welded steel and concrete mixed making stools, end tables and ultimately somewhat of a muskoka style chair. You never know what interest will spawn from your current project! Good luck

What type of silicone does the corn starch trick work with? I think acid-curing (vinegar smell) is used a lot in the US, but where I live almost everything is neutral-cure. Dos it work the same with both?

How do you make a mold of the oil based clay if it is still pliable? Won’t the details get messed up in the mold process?
@eldbudd9 ай бұрын
i make molds from either combining empty packages of food or actually anything, combining it with air-dry clay for negative space; or from creating them from craft cardboard sheets that i then cover with tape or smear a 3x coating for water resistance in the first few hours. To tell you the truth, the concrete pouring is the more mundane part. making the molds is where i really get creative. Each piece is one-of-a-kind. adds to the excitement.

Sir, when you pour a mix into that cast, how many day should we wait to demold it ? I mean, it will vary for some country, but i just want to know the basic principal. For example : the longer we take it out, the more sticky the concrete will be to the cast. Thanks !
@cchemmes-seeseeart3948 Жыл бұрын
Thanks. So how much cornstarch do you want to add to the 100% silicone so it will build more than normal & not be gooey for schmearing on your model :)
@creatingconcrete Жыл бұрын
you have to mix it quickly, but you start with a little bit and add more. If you add too much all at once it will essentially seize up on you. If you had a whole tube of silicone I might add 1 to 2 tablespoons of cornstarch to that.

I like your approach and delivery! How would you go about making a mold to cast full sized logs, 6 to 8 feet long? I have real logs to cast from. Thanks!
@creatingconcrete2 жыл бұрын
I would probably use urethane for casting logs. Seal it with wax and then release agent a few layers thick. Then mold the log in two pours of urethane. This will give you a split mold finished product. Note that the texture of the log will be such it will grab the urethane. I would use a very flexible urethane like Vitaflex 20 from Smooth On. You could also use latex backed with fiberglass, but I much prefer the urethane casting resin for concrete castings.

Whats the silicone to corn starch ratio?
@VetvsWorld Жыл бұрын
Bro, the fact you have such few subs is a travesty!! I have about 55 btw. 😂 I’ve long thought about creating concrete casts of myriad things, including my own horrible sculptures. I am here now trying to learn. You present this material in a very easy to follow conversational style (I’m going to try and steal). Thank you sir. Oh, and when I upload my own creations, I shall happily reference you and your channel as my inspiration, repeatedly. ✊🏼

Thank you! I have another channer (swimming pool steve) with about 50K subs, so I used that expeirence to help build this channel. Slowly but sure it is growing. It is a very niche subject so it will take a while to get to a point where the sub count is impressive. Good luck with your channel

Hey! Your videos have helped me soooo much on my journey to becoming a better cement master!! I have a quick question, I am planning on making a reusable mold for table tops, but have no idea what type of plastic to use! Some suggest HDPE and some PP.
@creatingconcrete Жыл бұрын
If I wanted a professional grade reusable form I would use polyurethane mold making rubber from Smooth-On. If you want a more cost effective option, but you can only use it once, MDF board is great for forming.
@cois Жыл бұрын
@@creatingconcrete thank you for the quick reply! I was thinking about polyurethane, but won't that be a bit too flexable? Here in the Netherlands I can by 1 inch thick hdpe sheets that are as stiff as MDF or melamine, but costs about 10 times as much. The tables I am planning on making are 9 by 4 feet. Do you think polyurethane gets stiff enough to produce perfectly flat results?

What about using sand for molds? I’m a novice that’s interested in making bird baths and fountains.
@creatingconcrete2 жыл бұрын
Definitely possible. It is a little limiting for design with a higher rate of failure than I prefer to work with...but totally possible if you want to build a bird bath. Finding a fine grain sand is critical for this, as is a tamping / compression process. Take the piece you want to mold, dust with talcum powder and then compact fine (slightly damp) sand on this. I will see about making a tutorial series for this moving forward.
