This is a a great way to cook your food when in the field! The Easy DIY Mini Charcoal grill uses only 3 pieces of match light charcoal and can be made entirely from reclaimed materials. It will burn long enough to cook your meal and heat up some water for a hot drink. It is lightweight and durable, but easily replaced. The entire grill, including charcoal, will fit nicely in a quart Zip-lock bag and can be carried in all but the smallest of packs or kits.

My grandpa used to call this a Hobo stove...when we would go camping every year, he would make up things like this to keep us kids entertain..the things he made for us would be unbelievable I am sure the items he made were for survival when he was growing up in Texas back before WWl....we would call fun stuff, Grandpa's stuff.....good stuff. ...I remember him making a rope thats was about 50 feet long and then cutting it down to about 15 feet and giving it to each of his grandson.. I had that rope all the way through Boy Scouts ..such is life

I was blessed with one of those grandpops too. He had six grandchildren all girls He lived in a place on the water had boat dock and 6 little cabins he rented out in summer months. In those days there was no ac so city folks would vacation on the water in tbe little rental cottages. Our family Came for Sunday dinner every week and every holiday. After Grandmom served dinner Grandpop gathered us up and out we went for our Nature walks, water survival lessons, land survival skills, how to fish, use tools, crabbing, canoeing etc. after our life lessons were over we had a campfire and roasted marshmallows and made hot choc and we sat around and he told us his war stories, then finished up with once upon a time stories so we ended with fun happy child hood memories. Miss you Grandpop 💕

@@davekirby7790 You sir, have something I always wanted but never got. Didn't want money, fame or glory? I would have been happy with just one grandchild but if I had to rent a bus to fit them all in for a trip to the zoo or camping? Even better! Yes, I am jealous, envious and a few other emotions mixed in but at the same time, I am also very happy for you. Those kids are a blessing and as far as I am concerned ( For whatever that is worth? Lol ) you are a rich man! Just like money, spend your time wisely. Doing things as a family no longer seems to be the normal way of life? I was blessed by 2 sets of grandparents and 2 great grandmothers that I would see weekly and they all had a wonderful influence on my life. I'm not sure why I am rambling on here? Anyway, enjoy those kids and never forget the treasures they really are because if you do it right they will never forget you.

Hey watched the hobo cooking can and fry pan brought back old memories of the coal mine tracks and shafts we played in and camped in as kids. A lot of this came out of german war and into 20s and 30sm We were taught these how to's in scouts from men of ww2 and Korea as scout masters. Great stuff still use this today. Gonna try a burger tomorrow if the weather's good. 👍🏻👍🏻 I can't believe how good this little thing works. It took a while but the burgers were amazing. Only bad thing was it started cooling down before the second one was done. I think there's room for another piece or two of charcoal and maybe I'll try leaving it in bigger pieces next time.

Another great idea to be prepared for hurricane season! Charcoal, matches and a mini can cooker! Keep a bag of Matchlight on hand for storm season. My friend you really have to promote these ideas to people in potential disaster areas! This is knowledge way beyond just bushcraft! Areas hit by floods and tornadoes and mudslides and tropical storms and hurricanes all need to know this. Any kind of sudden bad events. Your viewership needs to be huge! Why? Because this world is in turmoil! Disasters happen and people that are prepared will fare better. My faith in God allows me not to live in fear but to always be prepared...for life..and to give an answer to those who ask why I believe!

You could make several of these and get a set of raclettes for cheese melting and bun toasting and have a little backyard mini self serve charcoal cook out party. Like a rugged version of a tea party... why am I really excited to do this now? Ooh, and for extra fun, you could do s'mores on the raclettes and then when it's dark out, break apart some old firecrackers and throw different pinches in the little charcoal grills to make different colored flames...(my favorite thing to do at campfires)

I used a metal drain tile for this, it fits just perfect in the cans with the pull type lid. The drain tile I bought at Lowe's for about $5.00. Cost probably more now... My version I didn't have to cut ANYTHING other then making the holes. And I used the church key for the holes, and hardware cloth in the bottom. And put smaller holes around the top edge.

Great idea, I'll investigate it and I might show it on the channel if I can get it to work properly.

i ordered a 6" x 6" grill grate from amazon. i bet if i look around the supermarket long enough i might find a can that would fit ok with this charcoal grill project. This should be fun to make!

I just watched this and called my son. He's a computer person (repairs, builds....all that). I thought he'd get a kick out of it. a COOL idea. He warned me that those fan grills are chrome plated...painted. So can be dangerous. Just a little FYI for when using them. Maybe the older ones are chrome. Great video and idea.

Saw this video again and noted what you used. Great idea! I think a person could use the heat off the grill to heat up other things as well, pork n beans, water, for example.

I made this. I cut the bottom out of the can so that I could fit an alcohol stove through. Great setup for my cup to boil water. It the stove, cup and a bottle of fuel all nest together in a little pack. Thanks.
