Holy crap. I on a whim searched for how to turn an old vacuum cleaner into a shop vac and never thought i'd find a video like this. Thanks so much.

Good job. Did a similar thing with a Shark (bagless) vacuum. Its mounted 'upside down' on a plastic bin to collect the dust. very compact. Electrics were pretty easy in the end.

Im leaning toward just keeping in intact and running the hose to a big bin do collect shavings. If done correctly the Dyson would only have a little bit of fine dust to deal with

I have a Dyson that I intend to do something similar with. Although I was going to attach it to a bin to gain more capacity.

Very helpful video. The music was loud and irritating- maybe additional voice over is the way forward. Thanks for posting your video, much appreciated.

What an awesome video! I was wondering what the heck to do with our DC17 since the head motor went in it and they no longer manufacture replacements parts. new shop vac this weekend! Thanks!

It might be possible to fit a motor from other models - filters certainly can be swapped. Got a replacement motor for my DC33 for £20 off ebay - new!

I'm sure it would be more efficient if the dust bin/cyclone arrangement was vertical rather than horizontal - high risk of stuff being sucked into the filter like that as it fills...
@jpsworkshop25446 жыл бұрын
you're probably right but it was a bit of a space issue. I wanted it on that wall as it is next to the worktop I use the most but there was only space there to place it horizontally

I agree...the HEPA would be clog faster than normal. Has this been the case? do you find it losing suction faster?

Honestly I don't know, i don't tidy up very often :D

This was a very interesting aspect for me. I've been contemplating a building a frankenvac and have been wondering about efficiency of the cyclone if it's tipped to lower the overall height.

Very interesting. Somewhat more explanation or narrative would have been helpful. Some of the commentary was spoken in such a low voice, very rapidly, and somewhat mumbled, that it was incomprehensible even after repeated plays. Please take these comments as constructive criticism. I really would like to know more about this issue, and how to dismantle or convert the Dyson. Thanks for sharing.

Strange, I understood him perfectly. Could be your audio settings?

Or you could've just kept it how it was and used it like a regular vacuum but sucked up things a shop vac would

Dude, can you just post the instructable instead of a video only? I don't want to watch the video, I want to read it at my leisure and refer back to it if I make my own without trying to search through a YT video.
