I love seeing you teach this sewing technique! I haven't seen anyone even reference "sewing" in years! I'm 62, and me and my 3 sisters grew up sewing all our clothes. I think sewing is going to have a come back... Not only is it thrifty, but you can personalize and make things the way you like them. Love that you have videos available that teach sewing. Great video :)

Not paying attention to the instructions because I am distracted by the pretty view of the tops of the old trees outside🌳🌳🌳🌳, and the pretty look of the room. What is the most welcome distraction is this is the first view of this historic house that I see the actual scale. Love that you captured the house's proportion so perfectly. Love seeing the beauty of the architecture by your not covering the windows! You look so nice, thank-you for the dress and shirring tutorial. Blessings!👗

Love this! I just made the dress, and you can do it in a day!! So simple and awesome. My measurements were all the same except I'm shorter so I shortened the dress and the straps I made thicker, (6'' wide and folded in half to cover my bra straps better. It's a bit bulky but I'm happy with it). I'm expecting a girl and already pulling out fabric to make her the same dress :) I'll be making a bunch of these!

Love the dress! Also think your choice of fabric is great. Linen is cool in the summer; so is cotton; man-made fabrics don't breathe. For me, pregnancy during the summer was sooo hot! but I'm a lot further south than you are. When sewing the seams, try to carefully match the stripes so the seam disappears. Gives a more finished look. Also, when making a tube (straps, belt, etc.) if, before you turn it right side out, if you press the seam open, it's a lot easier to open the tube up. Pressing as you go gives the garment a more finished look and can make putting the garment together a lot easier. If you make a crease where you don't want one, take a damp wash cloth and slightly dampen the unwanted crease and then re-iron. I always keep a damp cloth on a plate or in a bowl on the ironing board so it's handy.

Hi Lisa, I'm about to try this project out for myself and 2 daughters. After you take the bust measurement in the way that you described ("First take a measurement of the bust at the widest point. Multiple that by 1.5, and add 2 inches. The 2 inches is for seam allowance, and the 1.5 is to shrink it down with the elastic thread.") Do you then divide this number in half to get the two pieces that you describe? I'm trying to figure out how you got 27'' wide as your measurement. Thank you for the clarification. Best,

OK I'm totally watching all your sewing tutorials. I have a question on this. If I have a dress pattern and it doesn't originally call for shirring but I want to shirr the back to make it maternity friendly, would I have to alter the pattern bodice piece by adding an inch and a half in order to shirr the back? Or can I do it without altering it? Not sure if you've tried that before. Thanks for your help :)

Maybe I need a class on cutting fabric. I couldn’t get all the pieces using your measurements with only 2.5 yards. What did I do wrong? Is the ruffle measurements on your blog for one piece or two pieces? In your video you said two pieces but in the blog it’s not specific.

I've done shirring on lots of garments but when I purchased the elastic thread from Walmart, it wouldn't work. I thought something was wrong with my machine. But realized the Walmart stuff is a lot more thin than the stuff I purchase at the sewing machine store. I wound up throwing that stuff away and went back to the thicker elastic. It could just be my machine. Idk
@jeng67864 жыл бұрын
I am an absolute beginner and I'm feeling overwhelmed. I've never touched a sewing machine that I can remember but I would love to try to make clothes for me and my kids. However I do have this thing that if it feels overwhelming or of it doesn't seem like something I can do fast, easily, and come up with a good end result and actually have a purpose... And actually be cheaper than something I can get at the store then I don't really feel the motivation to do it or try.. and rather feel intimidated by it. Advice? Is this maybe just not for me?
