hello madam. I am curious that tea coffee is not allowed and vegetables like carrot, potato, cucumber etc all allowed for fasting .. normally for other types fast we try to avoid all vegetables and rice .. would you know the reason why it's ok to eat certain vegetables for ekadeshi. also why is tea coffee not allowed. this will allow me to share the information with close friends.

Yes indeed they were new to me until I attended the ISKCON's Bhagavath Gita class n may be to ease our Fasting, they have a chart of wat we can eat ...n ofcourse u can go ahead with wat your ancestors did..like my mom used to have payatham thootham, chappathi with milk or tomato tohoku or binnam panni arisi upma/ kozhukattai with some fruits

Tea and coffee has certain amount of caffeine content in it, which makes the food negative to consume, we should consume only Satvik food, it's best to avoid eating anything from 6.am till 6.pm and do simple pooja and have satvik food for dinner. (As per my knowledge)

According to Bagavatgita, kali purusha stays in the grains (such as rice wheat ragi) and in the pulses (such as dal, payaru,kadale).so it is not good for our physical and spiritual health to consume those food on the ekadasi day. V can take vegetables, fruits, also whatever we get under the ground( such as potatoes, yam,sweet potato, kappa or tapioca) V can take sago javvarisi( bcos it's from the tapioca root) samai saamaa rice (its from a keerai plant)
