@stefanhoffmann84172 жыл бұрын
@@toddrhodes614 I had quit practising guitar 16-17 years ago and back then I mostly learned notes and playing regular chords. A year ago I started over and the first thing I practised was Nothing Else Matters lead guitar by Metallica. Had a nylon acoustic guitar with not enough frets to play the whole song so I bought an electric guitar to continue my practise. Nailing the parts that for me I find myself very difficult to play gives me a smile on my face. (With the original notes! Most guides I found from youtube were just dump simplified versions of that song.) Playing something as simple and stupid like these songs is tedius. That is why I quit playing guitar all those years ago. I gave up trying to strech my finger to hold a full bar.

@@kevina3780 I'm 52 and tinkered with an acoustic for a few years but never really could get past being a beginner thinking my fretting hand would never develop the dexterity like if I learned when I was younger. At 56, I decided to try to learn guitar (again) after giving it up for bass as a kid. I can manage fine on the bass, but I always wanted to play guitar. I talked my wife into a guitar for my birthday and I've been practicing (not nearly enough) for months. This ONE VIDEO for 20 minutes had me grabbing the guitar after the first song. "I CAN DO THAT!"... and I did. Thank you so much. After months of hacking away at chords for chords' sake, I have songs to play and play along with. It just became fun. You changed my life as a guitar player with one video. Can't thank you enough.

I've always said, it doesn't need to be complicated to be a good/great song. This video proves my point. I hope you do more of these type of videos.
@johnnorth93553 жыл бұрын
There is huge importance in learning some of these basic tunes. Most people become obsessed with the fretting hand when learning and this road blocks enjoyment and progress. The real battle is with the strumming hand. Once you get the rhythm of songs right they sound so much better even if they are simple. From there anything is possible as you will always be picking up the guitar to play ! :-) .
@daniellarson30683 жыл бұрын
Thanks - good advice.
@suc1252 жыл бұрын
@@daniellarson3068 I have always struggled with rythm, but I did improved a lot...Now I can play rythms I wouldnt believe I was capeable of few years ago - I thought, rythm is my weakness and thats my limitation, I cant improve it. So its really best not to say what you can or cannot do upfront, and not give yourself a hard time if you struggle with something. And my advice and one of the most important thing overall is - play together with the songs you are learning. Usually the drums guides you a lot and eventually you will just feel it. And if there are part you struggle with - just play some easier rythms there until you improve, so you can enjoy the whole song. And as with any learning, listen and listen and try and try, but give yourslef some breakes - you dont have to get the rythm in one sitting and usually, your uncoscious minds work during the breaks by itself. Sometimes it takes me days to actually get the rythms well (and with some songs, it took me years to be able to play them). So the best thing is looking for a tab with just the notes to play, and get the rythm from listening and playing along. Sorry if my english doesnt make sense somewhere

I’ve been exclusively an acoustic guitar player forever but recently, someone asked me to play “Wild Thing” which I put on the back burner thinking oh well, I’ll just do it on my amped Taylor. In a moment of impulsivity, I ran out and got a Les Paul thinking if I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it right. With no idea of where to begin, I just looked at the guitar for a few days and realized it wasn’t going to just jump into my hands and play itself😂. So I turned to you, my “go to” when I want something new and here you were with this! My son is a professional musician in NYC and I can’t wait to blow his mind when he comes home and I play all these 😂😂😂! Thank you so much…you really are the best out here!

Also an old Princeton Reverb amp. I know these things are valuable but the original owner and his son have both passed away. The sentimental value is immeasurable to his mother but they are beautiful instruments, nonetheless. PS from a 42 year old that never learned how to actually play in the 90s to picking back up and playing every available minute, thank you for these lessons. I restarted from nothing and you're teaching me proper technique.
