This £15/$20 affordable MIDI to USB enables you to connect an older digital upright piano without USB (in this case - the Yamaha YDP-131) to a computer without the need for an audio interface. Simply plug & play! No driver required for macOS.
It allows you to play and record your masterpiece in Garage Band or any other DAW. As well as learn to play using the fantastic fun app called Synthesia.
Thanks Lekato!

The MIDI nomenclature for in and out connections makes perfect sense. Why would anyone ever want to connect two inputs together? Output from one device to input of another device is logical.

I guess it's because we are use to with other cable and connections in matching what's being labelled or colour like component cables. In case (like myself) before thought you just matched both ends. But with midi it's different.

Joe dont worry your playing is o.k and will get better. I have been trying for 40 odd years!. I have one of these cables but issues trying to connect to Akai MPC beats software. Good video and not arrogant presentation like a lot of young video makers..

Thank you for the encouragement and kind words! 🙂 I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble connecting the cable to Akai MPC beats software. Does it use MIDI too? Does it not have USB?

Hello, Joe. Tanks for the video! Some time has passed since you did this review and I wanted to know how te cable has been doing until now. Have you had any performance problems with it? I'm considering buying one of this cables but it has been really difficult to choose one brand in particular since there are so few good and complete reviews about this type of hardware and many bad comments about them on amazon (not referring specifically to lekato's cable). I would really appreciate if you could tell me your thoughts on the product after some time using it. Greetings from Colombia!

Hi Daniel, greetings to Colombia and yourself. I am still liking this cable and its' working just fine with my digital Piano and Macbook with GarageBand. The only thing I like to point out is, I'm not sure if this is normal and how it works. The audio only comes out from your computer speaker/headphone if you use a DAW with VST plugins for your instruments if that makes sense? You can feed the audio back into the Piano and have it play through there. It is probably the way its suppose to work. Whereas with traditional audio interface with MIDI for example, I think you can use that as a MIDI input/output, mic/line input and speaker/headphone output in one box. Think of the Focusrite audio interface for example. Whereas with this cable, it only handles the MIDI signal. So you have to playback the audio from your computer. That's the only that I noticed. The piano will still play it's own built in sounds, but I usually just turn off the speaker in the physical Piano and playback the audio on my computer using headphones for example - that way I can listen to the software Steinway piano with the effects (in Garageband) and play with the physical keys on my PIano. Besides from that, no other issues to report for my use case. The sustain pedals works and everything. Quite literally plug and play.

Hi, interesting product. Does this device has a long input latency? (A gap time between a key pressed and sound appears) or it isn't so noticable? And does this device has an issue when several keys are pressed at once? Thank you
@JoeLamOfficial
@JoeLamOfficial 9 ай бұрын
I didn't notice any huge latency but I'm not a super professional keyboard player. I didn't notice any issue when I was playing it. Also, no I didn't have any issue getting multi keys to play sound when playing chords etc.

I plugged my keyboard into my iMac using this. I think there's a slight delay when I'm triggering drum sounds etc in my DAW. Any suggestions?
@JoeLamOfficial
@JoeLamOfficial 7 ай бұрын
Few potential fixes, Ensure that your DAW's audio buffer size is set to an appropriate value. Smaller buffer sizes can reduce latency but may require more processing power. Try connecting the USB MIDI cable adapter to different USB ports on your iMac. Some ports may have better performance or lower latency than others. Use a powered USB hub: If you're using multiple USB devices along with the USB MIDI cable adapter, it's possible that insufficient power is causing latency. Latency compensation: Many DAWs have latency compensation settings that can help align MIDI events accurately. Try using a different DAW or MIDI software to see if the delay persists. This can help determine if the issue is specific to your current software setup.

I have bought this MIDI USB cable so I could connect it to my pc. On the audio interface, the IN and USB light is on but the OUT is off, while everything is connected correctly (MIDI IN in OUT and OUT in IN, USB port works) and It doesn't want to be used on my pc in FL studio. Do you think the cable I have received is broken or something else?
@JoeLamOfficial
@JoeLamOfficial Жыл бұрын
Hi there, It's possible that the cable you received is defective or there could be another issue at play. Here are some troubleshooting steps you could try: - Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for the cable and your audio interface. Have you checked the Device Manager? - Try connecting the cable to a different USB port on your computer. - Double-check your FL Studio settings to make sure you have the correct MIDI input selected. - Try testing the cable on a different computer to see if the issue persists. If none of these steps work, it's possible the cable is faulty and you may need to contact the manufacturer for a replacement.

This might be due to "active sensing". My Yamaha YPT-210 keyboard has a similar problem. I can hardly use it to record MIDI, the "input" light on the interface is constantly flashing even when I do not press any key. But if I play a MIDI file on my computer, the keyboard outputs it flawlessly (and then the "output" light flashes). Apparently, the keyboard is waiting for a response from the other device (active sensing), which never comes. Some key strokes are accepted and some are not.

I'm guessing this can't be plugged into a Thunderbolt usb?
@JoeLamOfficial
@JoeLamOfficial 7 ай бұрын
If the Thunderbolt port supports USB, such as on newer Apple computers, it should function as a regular USB connection. However, keep in mind that you might need an adapter since most Thunderbolt/USB connections nowadays use Type-C, while this particular connection is Type-A. Just something to consider.

Depends how sensitive you are to it. I don’t have the exact ms time but I barley notice any when playing through the MacBooks output via Garage Band as the software instrument driver.
