For ceramic CPUs I like to crush them into small chunks but not pulverize. I find the fine dust from pulverization interferes with the filtering and slows down reactions. It makes washing the pregnant solution out more difficult. Yes, a second extraction is usually beneficial. If I'm doing CPUs in batches, I will collect all the leftovers and do a second extraction on the lot. Sometimes I get more gold from the second extraction than the first

I wanted to thank you for this series. The metal can transistors were giving me a little trouble and found that the plated bottom ones yield muck less than the epoxy ceramic bottom ones. One note was there was some white paste in ones that had a green bottom, that may have been your haze. I used cable cutters from harbor freight to snip the hundreds of them, I found three with paste. I use KNO3 prills and more sulphuric than you plus a 5 liter beaker and it pretty much heats it self.

What a nuisance that rain can be. Yes that second extraction was surprising. 👍

Stay safe my friend and I will be waiting for the rest of the work. Looks like you will have lots of gold from those chips.

Have been successfully using the same ceramic Corning hot plate for years, the key is laminar flow within the fume hood. All fumes are pulled upwards and back. If fumes are eating your plates it’s possible they are also nibbling you too as that means the hood does not have proper laminar flow which allows the fumes that are denser than air to settle and rest at the bottom of your hood which if using outward opening doors would then cause the dense accumulate to pour into your personal breathing space each time a door is both opened and closed. To study how air flows around and through the hood you can use incense around all inlet surfaces and watch how the smoke travels then make modifications to guide it upwards and back in a streamlined fashion. A little bit of proper fumehood adjustments will save you a lot of time and money by not dissolving your lab equipment but more importantly your health. Also I’m surprised you didn’t incinerate right after crushing then was surprised again when you didn’t incinerate the leftover solids before aqua regia. Your enemy tin among other things is preventing full dissolution of your gold in AR…but you already knew that…I’m just reminding you

Great video for us poor scrappers who can't get nitric. Just a note: can any nitrate work ie calcium, potassium, etc?
@garrettmillsap2 ай бұрын
Yes. I use sodium nitrate a lot
@garrettmillsap2 ай бұрын
But not calcium nitrate.
@omegageek642 ай бұрын
Calcium nitrate works for poor man's aqua regia, yes. Not for poor man's nitric acid. Calcium (anything) plus sulfuric acid makes gypsum.

My stir plate got used once before the fumes killed it. Stir bar is like new though.

will calcium nitrate work the same way as the sodium nitrate does for the pour mans acids?
