The talking to you bits brought back funny memories, I bought a cheapo Chinese solar powered timed waterer for my mothers hanging baskets a few years ago. Instructions all in Chinese, it screamed at me for ages until I figured out how to mute it! Took another 2 days to figure out how to actually program it, it worked great in the end but had to replace the clear poly type lines with black lines because the water sitting in them grew algae between watering periods.

Really interesting video as always. Quick side question, average night temp where I live is 6 degrees at the moment. Is this too cold for chilli's to be in an unheated greenhouse? They have been outside for the last 2 nights and seem ok. I'm about to pot onto 5ltr pots and will struggle for space inside the house.

Hey Philip, if it doesn't go below 6, then you are fine. I only have my heater come on when it goes below 4

Hmmmmmmmmm, very interesting! Don't have any thermometers in my allotment greenhouse at the moment and something like this with a SIM could be a really valuable tool. Thanks for the great video Shaun.

Absolutely love your work, Shaun! Your videos are informative, entertaining, and solid production value. And I particularly enjoy watching your videos that lean towards the more geeky/tech side of things, since it meshes well with my other interests. That said, I'm curious about your profession? Doesn't really matter in the end, but you've got some exceptional know-how when it comes to the tech you show, so... just trying to see if that comes from industry experience or just straight up passion. Keep up the awesome!

Hey Terrance, thank you for the kind words! My profession has been in tech all my life. Actually started out back when I was 10 years old, had a small computer business!

Very interesting! Smart farming is a hot topic currently. I thought about writing my thesis about a smart farming topic but decided against it because I wanted to stay closer to my main focus area. I'm already looking forward to do something cool in my garden/greenhouse once I have one, so it's nice to see you do more technical stuff like this.

@@ChilliChump I'm of course already subscribed and registered hahaha I just tried to turn on the notification bell for the second channel but apparantly 'that action is turned off for content made for kids'. Just as a heads up because I'm not sure if the 'trade-off' is worth it for you personally, I don't know about the pros and cons of that setting

@@coalacorey it definitely shouldn't be set to "made for kids"! Not sure what that's about. Will have a look at the settings...

Another great video Shaun. I have something very similar to the smaller unit for my grow tent and I really love the ease of use and how nice it is to have all that information on demand. The humidity is one thing I try and pay very close attention to as my plants start to flower and go to fruit. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this review. those devices look really nice. Stay safe and stay spicy - v/r Shane

Thanks Shane. It really does help to keep track of the info, helps optimise the growing! Have a great weekend buddy

interesting device, i was pleasantly surprised when i went and looked up the price of them, especially the more industrial looking one.
@ChilliChump2 жыл бұрын
I was surprised too with the prices. I expected them to be at least twice the price. The onboard memory, screen, IOT platform...not bad at all.
@wardy892 жыл бұрын
@@ChilliChump yes exactly that, I thought the base unit would be a lot more than it is. And most of the external sensors seem to be reasonably priced. In comparisons the "consumer" one almost seems a little pricey.

The readings are very useful but would be nicer to use that info for venting or pumps. Extra ports would be nice for this.

Hi, I’m doing a college project, that involves me using this with the Ubibot soil sensor. I’m just wondering would it be easy to show the data from the sensor on my own web page? Have you done anything like this? Thank you

Hey um why is 20c needed for pepper fermentation? Would 25c encourage unfavorable bacterias?

Higher temperatures will result in odd flavours coming through. You don't want to rush the fermentation

160 for the fancy one with a SIM card slot. But it reads like you have to use their specific SIM card. 50MB / month is £7 i think which is quite expensive but presumably 50MB is a lot of readings. Millions? so should be plenty.
