I love how the acrylic hinges were so easy to mass produce and put adhesive on so that they're ready to cut and go! It takes so much time to stop while you're constructing the card and make two hinges. Very clever Time saver.

Beautiful, but I will never do that kind of inlay as I'm already too slow completing a project. You work so very hard and it's much appreciated. The dies are beautiful and I would love to own some like this.

I love everything about this card--the possible variations, the colors, the femininity of it all. I appreciate so much the way you encourage people to use what they already have to apply a technique, Jennifer, and I do that when I can. I rarely purchase a die/folder/stamp immediately after seeing a video. But I LOVED this; it was easy to see many potential applications of this bundle. So I priced out the stamp/die bundle and the plaid dies - what a blast it would be to make a bunch of these cards, to actually have the demonstrated stamps and dies! So I checked them out...about $70. Plus tax and shipping fees. On sale. Gulp! I decided to debate splurging (my birthday is this month!) but when I went back to look again, just an hour or two later, they were sold out. Recently it seems many newly released items are becoming quite pricey. Even colored envelopes, which I have been hankering for lately, add $.35-$.50 to the cost of EACH card--guess it's white ones for me. "No special dies needed" -maybe, but not nearly as striking with only basic shapes (rectangles, circles, ovals): How DO people afford it? I understand many of these companies are small and do not have big profit margins, and they have expenses associated with design and production. I just encourage them to be mindful that most of us do NOT create cards for a living, but as a hobby, a ministry, and/or as a creative outlet, and to be cognizant that most crafters have limited budgets. Or perhaps I am the outlier - after all, the set sold out so quickly! I am rather curious and wish I could poll other card makers: What is your typical monthly crafting budget? (My own answer is $35-40.). Maybe I should begin playing the lottery! LOL
@jennifermcguireink3 жыл бұрын
yes, the prices are tough. sadly, they are charging what they have to - manufacturing costs have increased and there is only one US die manufacturer. :( that is why i chose to do a heart shape. many people have basic heart dies. would work the same way!
@dking13623 жыл бұрын
@@jennifermcguireink Thank you for making me think that I am not alone in my "sticker shock." I apologize for the whining...I REALLLLY loved these cards just as they are and admittedly wanted to be a copycat! The color palette and flowers won my heart. Interesting to learn there is only a single die manufacturer. But I have a plan now: 1) Use my basic heart die with some of the patterned paper in my stash that I rarely use now; 2.) Use my current embossing folders; and 3.) Search through my stamps for small flowers to imitate the floral pattern (initiate dramatic "It will have to do" back of hand-to-forehead. Follow with Scarlett O'Hara-type vow: "One day I WILL have dies to create an inlay! I will!") In all seriousness, I suspect doing this truly WILL end my whining as I learn the hinge-making technique, end up with some pretty cards, and just have fun. When I grow up and mature, I will learn to be content! I have so much for which to be grateful.

Beautiful results, as always. This heart has a kind of folk-art feel to it. The technique of the hinge is so simple and effective. I've learned so much from your videos. I live in Europe, and I'm always taken a bit back by the expression "to do something quick". Card making, like any art form, isn't a sprint, but a walk, sometimes slow, sometimes brisk. OK, maybe speed isn't a topic for me because I don't have to make a bazillion of cards.

Thanks for all the great tips for creating these beautiful cards! I have an older Tonic White Glass mat with grid markings and 4.25 x 5.5 card marking and other grid sizing and angle design markings. It's a perfect size (14 x 14) for my desk top and I love it. I had purchased this prior to the introduction of the black glass mat from Tim Holtz and decided to keep it because of the size, plus I do like the white background. It cleans beautifully and is of course heat resistant.
