Great solution to recover pellets, thanks. In my area of Colorado it’s the local Home Depot selling lower quality pellets (less heat energy, higher price) stored open air w/ moisture intrusion leaving large clumps of pellets dissolved into saw dust. Which clogs the stove auger. Switched to Tractor Supply, selling high quality pellets (high heat energy, yet lower cost) stored indoors, near-zero saw dust, auger runs smoothly.

Thank you for this tip. I used Big R pellets this past season, same problem, low quality bags that split open and pellets turned to sawdust.

This is way better than letting the dust drop on some pans. I have everything but the duct pipe. Thanks for the idea!

I ended up taking 44 tsc bags back to the store due to moisture. They had another brand called cheat river pellets out of West Virginia. They burn hotter then the hubs of hell. I noticed small amounts of saw dust in the bottom of the bags. No clumps but to much saw dust for my liking. This is one hell of a great idea. Going to build one soon. Thank you for the Idea.

Honchoz71 My TSC doesn’t want to deal with bringing them back. I showed them a couple, and after that they just wanted the number of wet bags. Usually only about 1/3 of the bag was ruined for me.

I burned two ton of tractor supply pellets last year and had no issues. I had 20 bags left over and started burning in November and ran out, I went and bought another ton and these things would not produce no heat whatsoever.

I like the idea, but I can't figure out how the dust is separated. Seems to me that the dust would follow the pellets. Is there a secondary smaller hole screen to have the dust drop and pellets continue. If you could explain, that would be awesome. The pellets I am getting from TSC, all my bags have fine dust and it keeps loading up my auger.

The dust falls through the screen into the metal duct. The pellets stay on top of the screen. I had two buckets at the bottom. One collects the dust and tiny pieces from the duct and the other one catches the pellets from the screen.

@@Mudford thanks for the explanation, I didn't think the pellets would make it down on the screen with the holes being 1/2" square.

What size round duct work did you use? 8 inch?
@Mudford9 жыл бұрын
+Brian Ward The duct I used is only 6" diameter because that is what I had laying around. I think you could make a better (wider) one with 8". I am working on a video revisiting my screener, so stay tuned.
