Thanks, this is so helpful! I think we're going a bit wider on the steps but this was awesome to get my head around how to do it!

WINNER! I have watched a ridiculous number of videos, trying to find what I needed AND good, clear instructions. This type (open riser) loft stairs is exactly what I wanted. You were killing me with the "remember you trig". I admit to rewinding through that about 5 times, but ultimately understood my wood project; Open Loft Stairs to 110" barn loft. The use of TimberLOK adjustable screws on the treads was a labor and brain saver. Mine mount on gate hinges and use an electric winch to raise to clear floor space. Using 2x10's. I will try to remember to share after photos of the project. AND WHERE did you get that square with the blue circle guide?

Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Yours sound like a great set of stairs. The square is no longer made I believe it’s a Stanley that my Dad had. I found one like it on EBay. There may be others I just copied the link to the first one I found. www.ebay.com/itm/204104453392?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=hMfwfSyATWS&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=PFPWtWKQTpa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Question for you. I was told in the past not to drill with the grain of the wood because it makes it easier to split. Do the timber locking screws you mentioned account for that? I am building a very lage loft bed frame (one frame for 2 mattresses, essentially an indoor deck) and we have very limited space, so mine will be more ladder than stair (working with about 30.5" as opposed to your 48"). Also, the nails are enough to keep the treads from pivoting with use? Thank you so much for making this!!!
