I just handed a print of My cat to the missus and she said "that looks terrible, you've spent hours doing that!" . I then shone a light through the back of it and her mind was blown, now she wants lots of presents making for family hehe. Thank you for showing how simple and effective this is.

Thanks for the kind words +Will! :) I had EXACTLY the same situation with my first one. My girl was soooo disappointed after I'd been working on and ironing the bugs out of this project for about a week, then she saw the first result. Before I gave her a torch I thought I was going to get kicked out.. Bahahahaha. Got another pretty cool project almost ready to release so feel free to subscribe for updates. :D

Great vid, if I can add. When you print them vertically, you will get much better quality.

The detail of your lithophane prints are so amazingly good. I printed mine at 0.06 layer height and the print was 80mm square but our faces are smiles lack any detail at all. How do I figure out what is wrong?
@66tbird18 жыл бұрын
Just FYI for those S3D users, it can do the same.(Add-ons) I believe it needs a png file to work. Set thickness in multiples of layer height determined by gray scale number plus one. I had to fiddle with the settings but soon it was dialed in as nice as the authors. A+ BTW

Thanks +66tbird1! Very useful info for any S3D fans. If you do a video on it, feel free to message me the link and I will post it in the description. Thanks again for the input. 👍

Care to explain that into a bit more detail?What add-on? you cannot import png models in S3D.
@JMWConceptsTheOfficial7 жыл бұрын
+techgen advisor, To be honest, I'm not sure PNG would work as if there is no 'background'(like there is in JPG) then there would be no parameters for the base. I hope this makes sense and apologies if I am incorrect. -JMW.

Thanks +ShutterPresser! It's a really useful tool that I use quite a lot. It is all about contrast so you will fins in some cases it works flawlessly, and other times it really struggles. Thanks again and happy new year! -JMW.

Much better quality if you print vertically instead of horizontally. Takes a lot longer, but you'll get a lot more detail.
@JMWConceptsTheOfficial8 жыл бұрын
Hi skbigelo, yeah a lot of people have mentioned this since I originally posted this a couple of months ago. I haven't had a chance to print too many more of these with other projects in the pipeline. I might give it a go next time I print one off! Thanks mate!

my apologies for the late response. We have had a baby and moved house. I haven't made a lot of videos in a while but we are getting back to it! :) Did you get this sorted?

@@JMWConceptsTheOfficial no only thing i ever see is a website that does it all with limited shapes. Never see a way to do it with your own shapes made from fusion360 ect. Congrats on the baby and move

@@esmokebaby I'd see If i could export the lithopane as an stl from cura. Then, use the project tool in fusion to project the geometry onto a 3d model. I'm not a expert with cura though, so I'm not sure if this even possible without plugins or something. And also try using the newer emboss tool in fusion, that might help!

I LOVE this kind of prints. I'm new to 3d printing just build up mine 2weeks ago and been playing around a few nights but not quite to familiar with it. But your video helped me so much with it since I don't know how all settings work yet. I tried a few ones but with your video it worked so thanks to that. I printed out mine with green since i didn't had anything else yet. but I ordered no a glow in the dark, white and clear pls. Which one is the best one to use for this kind of prints?
@JMWConceptsTheOfficial7 жыл бұрын
Hi +Deniz Lather, I tend to use mostly PLA because it is so easy to print with. Only if an item needs a certain property do I change filaments. For lithophanes, I think white looks the best but I also did a free one! Haha. Please be aware that glow in the dark filament will degrade your nozzle very quickly. You need to use a hardened nozzle for glow in the dark. Something like this.. amzn.to/2rxqVWO I have quite a few 3D printing videos so feel free to have a look around my channel. :) Thanks!

Does it matter if you use clear plastic? im using davinci "natural" filament
@JMWConceptsTheOfficial7 жыл бұрын
Hi Propergander Productions, I personally haven't used clear before so you will have to let us know! I might guess that being clear there will be a lot of refection within the panel which may hurt detail. I have used colours and although it works, you lose too much light. White seems perfect for light diffusion while still allowing it to pass through. Good luck!

i'm wondering if i could use this process to make a printing plate that would take ink instead of etching into zinc or carving into wood. Any thoughts would be great. :)
@JMWConceptsTheOfficial6 жыл бұрын
Hi +TheKarmaProject.Co, I don't see any reason why not! Although in my very limited experience with printing plates, they were made out of a semi-flexible rubber sort of material. I suppose to make it easier to press into/ onto the surface to be printed. If you're carving into wood and that work, then this would absolutely work as well. It would be a lot quicker and easier than hand carving, that's for sure! :D

Hey +FT, you can just drag and drop or 'Load model file' just like you would with an STL. 😀
