Thanks for the shout out in your comment review. Lee. Always a good vlog. My OCD would have lined the cabinets from the top myself. But there you go.. I would have used a chase nipple fitting suitable for exterior use and given the cabinets some space.. I've noticed a lot of eyebrow action in the videos lately. Competition on which one of you can produce the best Sine Wave with your eyebrows or a combination. Just a thought.

Lee’s camera skills are fine, but I strongly disagree with his comments regarding ring circuits. I would much rather have ring circuits, because unlike radials they don’t trip when you have more than one appliance on. There’s nothing wrong with ring circuits that are fitted, maintained and tested properly (e.g. when replacing a socket). The fitting of 4mm radials is not common at all in the UK domestic market, probably due to the extra cost and hassle of fitting 4mm cable runs compared to 2.5mm cable runs, because they are thicker cables they need larger capping etc.

I can see the "logic" behind using black for the neutral line, if you are old enough to remember pre-harmonisation colours. But it would bring a whole new meaning to "Warning, this installation has wiring colours to two versions of BS7671"

The reason why you can't run cables in the cavity protected or not, is it privides a path for moisture from the outside to the inside. That's why brick ties have a drip loop!

Now it’s not IP rate…. 😜😄 just joking 😎 But as an idea: The box can be mounted a little further away and then you can put conduit in between and use some screwed fittings to bond the conduit to the meter and cu boxes respectively. This way boxes are sealed against weather and insects, while the conduit allows further installations to be pushed through, without the need to remove any seals or silicone ;) Great install and good to see a different situation to the usual runs 👍👍👍👍

How far away is the house DB? I am of the understanding that if that distance is greater than two, or three, metres then a switch fuse needs to protect the cable run, even if it is SWA cable.. Am I correct?

Hello guys, can i ask if you've come across an issue I have. I had a Hypervolt charger fitted last week in my garage, after fitment it was found that my wifi didn't connect to the charger. I have tried to charge my car but the charger cuts off after 2-3 minutes. I phoned Hypervolt customer services on Friday, but i had to leave a message explaining what was happening as no-one answered. I had no feedback after that, I called the installer and he came back and checked his work which he said was fine, and suggested the wifi signal be extended, to allow Hypervolt to check the system. I finally managed to get a signal to the garage. I again attempted to contact Hypervolt via email, which they've at least this time acknowledged and will get back to me at some point. The car itself has been ok on charge at other points, have you guys had anything like this in any of your installations? I guess i'm just disappointed at the customer service level after being told how good it is.

@@rodd8170 I was being sarcastic as there is no protection for the SWA feeding the house, in this installation there should be a switch fuse after the isolator as it clearly looks like the SWA feeding the house is over 3 meters in length.

Why not just run the hi-tuff fully into the consumer unit instead of stripping black sheath at enclosure entry? Looks a bit strange and the inner white insulation isn’t the most durable of material, always found it to be quite soft. Also in Northern Ireland single phase hi-tuff and SWA will have Brown Blue and Earth cores as standard.

15:35 Never understand Rings . In Belgium we all have radials on 3x 2,5mm on a 20A MCB and with a maximum of 8 sockets ( double/tripple/quattro ) Also are sockets are rated 16A ( melt fuse ) don't think a 4mm would and sockets on a 32A MCB is now allowed here :-)
@Marcel_Germann
@Marcel_Germann 2 жыл бұрын
I think you actually could do it. It depends on the reference method of installation, that is normalised in Europe. Installation method C permits 32A for 4mm² on a single phase circuit. In the worst case it's "only" 25A for that conductor size. Reference method C is directly clipped on the surface or embedded into masoned wall. Length of the cable run is also of interest. And we usually have also radial circuits here in Germany, also 3x2.5mm² (in old installations 3x1.5mm²) fused with 16A MCBs. Or 10A fuse in really old installations. And for general purpose sockets we calculate 550W per socket we install. In some installations there is also no separate lighting circuit, especially in rooms that are small and used as bedrooms or living rooms there's one 16A circuit to supply the sockets in that room and the lighting. And that's sufficient, there are usually no appliances with high demand in there. Maybe a ceiling fan, radio clock, TV, phone charger and such stuff. In East Germany they used a ring for the general purpose circuits. But they also used 2.5mm² aluminium there. 😬
@kittsdiy
@kittsdiy 2 жыл бұрын
@@Marcel_Germann combined cicruit lights & sockets here needs to be 3x2.5 and on a 16A MCB . 4mm here is max 25A MCB . No other regulations clipped on wall or in conduit. 6mm is 32A ( sometimes 40 )
@Marcel_Germann
@Marcel_Germann 2 жыл бұрын
@@kittsdiy Here it is that way. The different installation methods are harmonised in Europe. The thing is, back in the old days we did the same, this cross sectional area gets this MCB rating. But this was replaced by: Look at the table (mostly for the most common things you have them in your mind), usually the one with 25°C ambient temperature (there's also one for 35°C), look at if it's single phase or three phase circuit, reference method of installation. It's about heat dissipation, the conductor temperature must be kept below 70°C. That is the critical temperature for PVC. Directly clipped or buried into the masoned wall that is much easier than it is with a thermally insulated wall. But you also have to consider the voltage drop, so also the length of the cable run is of interest.
@kittsdiy
@kittsdiy 2 жыл бұрын
@@Marcel_Germann funny to see how things vary in different countrys. Here we have the A.R.E.I.. It's funny for example 4mm on a 32A MCB is allowed in residential in UK . Here this would not pass inspection . Same for the earth has to be same diameter untill 16mm. For 120mm² i have installed 70mm CPC ( but that was industrial in factorys .. also may vary in code ) . And ofcourse everone thinks his country is the best are the way to do it .. i would think AC power is the same in UK - DE - BE an USA :-)
@Marcel_Germann
@Marcel_Germann 2 жыл бұрын
@@kittsdiy Usually yes, but sometimes it's different. For example in Europe you usually have a three-phase low voltage grid supplying the buildings, with a voltage of nominal 3x230/400V. Either the domestic installations are single phase and evenly distributed on the three phases, or you got three phase supply in the house. In the US you usually got a split phase supply, meaning the center of the secondary coil is earthed, a center tap, creating a system that has nominal 2x120/240V. That split-phase system dates back to the old Edison and his DC grid. The last remnants of this were dismantled in the 1950s in Germany. In the UK domestic dwellings usually have a single phase supply fused with 100A. Here in Germany you got a three-phase supply fused with 3x63A in domestic dwellings.
