Hello. Thank you for this super easy to follow video. I see you linked to 40 inch circular needles in another comment. What minimum length circular needle do you think could be used for these? I feel like perhaps a shorter length wire might get tangled up less. I've only done 2 projects on circular needles and am clueless on knowing appropriate loop length. Again, thank you!
@SewingLara3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Faye, thank you for watching! You can definitely go for30 inches for sure! Maybe even a bit shorter. I personally like them a bit longer because I find it easier to pull them out, though. That is why I usually use a bit longer ones. But that is just my personal preference. I hope this helps. I am actually planning on trying the classical 4 needles set, too. Once I feel comfortable with that, I'll film some fun project with them.

10:05 how do you take the yarn with you? There is no hook on the needle; impossible to grab the yarn, it just slips off.
@SewingLara4 жыл бұрын
It is mostly all practice but I do find that the yarn slips more from really smooth needles. The needles I used have a bit rougher surface. I find it easier with them. I also tried wooden magic loop and that was even better.

Long tail cast on: (1 of many ways to cast on. There actually is a K2P2 cast on that makes the ribbing more stretchy) The tail needs to be approx 3x longer than the width your project will be; then add 6-7”

Hi Lara, thank you for very detailed tutorial. In 52 cast on from the beginning, for the body/leg part, how many knit stitch do you required? Do you need to increase how many stitches? And do you decrease it again once you do the knit/pur stitch, any by how much? Thanks on advance.
@SewingLara10 ай бұрын
Hi, I apologized for the very late reply. I did not increase or decrease as far as I remember. If you're using magic loop, you can always pull the legwarmer on your leg and see if they need increasing. Usually, it's good to go a bit wider. You can also put the work on a pair for leggings and see the width comparison. I hope this helps.

Tx for useful tutorial. Can we use straight needle for knitting it?
@SewingLara4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for wacthing! Yes, you can use a set of straight needles. I believe it is four short straight needles and that way you would be able to knit in a round. I never tried it, though. I learned right away using the magic loop method. But both works.

Hi Lara, I just started the project with 52 cast ons but when I put it around my leg, it seems a little too small. If I increase the number of cast ons, should I keep it even number?
@SewingLara Жыл бұрын
Hi, my dear! For the cuff, where you switch between 2K and 2P, it's easier to keep it an even number (unless you don't care if you and up having on one spot 3 K or 3 P, which would be absolute fine). For the "body" of the leg warmers, it doest matter if the number is even or odd, since it is just knit stitches. For going over the the upper cuff, you can simply add one stitch to make it even or decrease by 1 stitch, that would describe work. I hope this helps!

Help and thanks for the video…..I saw your vid and wanted to make a pair but all I have in my stash is Paintbox simply super chunky at 65yd 100g/3.5oz 100% acrylic. I wanted to know how many balls to use its say to use 10-12mm knitting needles and I wanted to make these using maybe 1x1 ribbing…..is this possible?
@SewingLara2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching and for your kind words. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how many balls you'll need, that away depends on the wool. Usually, there's a small graphic or info on the packaging that tells you how many you need for a sweater and how big e.g. 10x10 cm would be. If it's really chunky, you won't need that many. But again, it's hard to tell for me since I don't know the product and I myself usually eyeball it.

So no gauge? How long are the leg warmers? Different size yarns & needles will make different widths & lengths! Yes?
@SewingLara4 жыл бұрын
The needle size and the yarn type are explained beginning at 2:45 in the video. If you use thicker needles, it would make the legwarmers a bit bigger but also less dense, but it would work too for sure.

It doesn't really matter how many exactly. Try to divide the stitches on the loop so you can have three sections that make the work easier for you. The exact number in each section is not important. I hope this made sense and helps 🙏

@SewingLara4 жыл бұрын
Hi, you have to make sure that the tension of the yarn while knitting is always the same. If it won't go over the knee it also might be that you need to make more stitches to begin with at the end that goes over your knee. You could then slowly reduce the stitches as youbwould knit further after the cuff.

Hi Lara! Thank you for a wonderful tutorial! I'm almost done with the first part, but I've really been wondering how to know if the size I chose is going to fit me. Do you have by any chance an assumption to what size of calf circumference each of the sizes you wrote can fit?
@SewingLara6 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching! The best way is measuring the circumference of your calf. Then, measure how many stitches go into let's say, an inch. It will depend on the yarn and needles you're using. It's always good to knit a square of eg 3 inches times 3 inches or what's size works for you. Then count the stitches. Now if you would have, let's say, 30 stitches in 3 inches, and the circumference of the calf would be 15 inches, it'd be 15/3=5. That is 5 times the square. So 30 stitches times 5 would give you 15. That's of course just a made up size now but the math should help.

Hi Jodee, thanks for watching and commenting. I wonder how much you actually watched? I have shown literally all the steps from casting on, dividing the eyes on the needles, how to do knit and purl continental style, and even at 12:30, I was still going through the first row which means I was showing what to do from the first stitch. That's why I am confused about your comment. Maybe try and watch the whole video again? Knitting can look confusing at the beginning, but after watching the steps twice or a few more times it will get easier. I watch tutorials sometimes over and over until I get it myself. Maybe it will help. Whstever you decide, happy new year and all the best to you.
