I’ve been producing for about 3 months now and have improved a lot, but the thing that always gets me is mixing and mastering. Hopefully I’ll learn some day 😭
@derrickwayne46272 жыл бұрын
you will lol took me a couple years to figure out how to get clean mixes and increase the 808s and kick punch without clashing with the track, one game changer for me was time shifting everything to a different but small degree so everything is sitting in their own pocket better

Picking the right key is also essential to making an 808 stand out on different sound systems. The lower the key the lower the fundamental frequency and the harder it is to hear on phones,cheap speakers, laptop etc and vice versa.

2:38 this is not "for some reason" the parametric eq from fl studio is a FM based eq, which means if you "cut off low end" you're basically messing with the phase of the sample. changing the phase often gives it a different tonality and texture; sometimes making it hit harder
@ayozens5 жыл бұрын
you just stated the "reason" so Cxdy was technically in the right to say "for some reason" which he only said because he didn't know the EXACT reason , but knew there WAS a reason end rant 😂 ~

Its acctualy 6 db louder after effects thats why it feels it hits harder :) you should allways check your gain staging to not fool yourself while mixing i also noticed some time ago when u take some sub out of 808 or kick it hits harder but thats because it raises in volume so when you match the volume its really that big of a difference. Anyways thanks for uploading theese videos its cool to see your work process.

2:39 This happens because low cuts that steep, create big differences in the phasing of the sound so you get a big boost in db around the frequencies that you put the low cut. If you have pro q 3 from fabfliter you can change the slope up to 96db/octave and you can hear a big difference in punchiness if you scroll through the different slopes. This is more apparent if you set it to natural phase, but is happening with linear phase (what parametric eq 2 has) as well, when you have steep slopes. Example: gearshoot.com/assets/Uploads/_resampled/FitWzEyMDAsNjMwXQ/FF-low-cut-24dB.png

Okay real quick tho, some skullcandy headphones ain't bad, been producing for about a year now and I've used almost strictly skullcandy headphones (the crusher series) and I've got no complaints. "But they're gimmicky!" Umm not necessarily, tune them properly and they give wonderful sound quality. Sorry just mild rant on the quality of "low quality" headphones

Hi CXDY! Thank you very much for these tutorials, for your Drum kits, for everything! I am a fan of your music, I love it! I wanted to ask you for a new tutorial for the 808. I just bought "Space Cadet" but I can't make the 808 sound longer, do you have any technique? For example, in your "STARWARS" beat the 808 sounds incredibly hard and long at the same time. Thanks in advance!
