Thank you so much for this great video. I needed this exact info so I'm saving it for later, unless you want to come do my kitchen next!

Glad to hear that the video will be useful. I wish you every success with your backsplash…sorry I can’t be there to help in person.😂

Great Job.....so much time saved by having the tiles securely attached to the wall before attempting any cutouts.

Yes, this method works well for mosaic tiles. Thanks for commenting!

Well done Brother! Backsplash looks professionally installed and I like the idea for getting the receptacles sitting properly and not sticking out. 👍🏻

Thanks doug! This works well for the loose mosaic tiles that would otherwise be hard to cut beforehand. Thanks for stopping by.

How's she goin'? OK first off I have to say I like your backsplash. There that's done. Now onto the fun stuff: You did a top notch job here sonny!!! Nice idea to mark out where the receptacles are and then tile over everything. The diamond saw sure makes a lot of dust and isn't real quick but does a nice neat job too. The box extenders worked perfect. I don't like using box extenders but in this case they sure are the answer. Very nice. Your bow is well deserved!!! Have a great week!!!

I looked at several ideas to cut out for the receptacles and this one seemed best. The box extenders are often required by electrical inspectors (especially for wood or flammable surfaces) but the plastic ones worked well in this application by providing a level surface for the receptacles to sit against. Steel box extenders would seem better suited to preventing a stray spark but now with plastic boxes everwhere, the plastic box extenders are more often seen. The 3" Dremel disk was just the right size for this job and the mandrel fit into my drill perfectly. I think this method of installing full tiles and cutting the holes later eliminates the chances of loose mosaic tiles from shifting on installation, and the cut off wheel makes a neat hole in the rigid tile once it's stuck to the wall.There is a lot of fine dust by cutting the tile this way but I could have sprayed (or had a helper spray) some water on as I cut to reduce it. Thanks for having a look and taking the time to comment. I really enjoy getting your input! Now get back out there and shovel snow! ha

Did you use spacers before the grout
@kelvinroundtree4213 Жыл бұрын
I have the same backsplash tile
@EverydayProjects Жыл бұрын
These tiles were in sheets that had an interlocking edge. they are spaced evening on the fiber membrane. I grouted the gaps between tiles before cuttint the holes for the receptacles.

So did you grout everything before you went back in and cut the receptacle holes out?

Yes, I mentioned that At one point . Either way will work 😀

I didn't think you could dry cut the glass tile like that without it chipping...so I could essentially use a diamond blade on a grinder to cut around the outlets?
@EverydayProjects2 жыл бұрын
I used the cutter shown but went slow. It worked without chipping the tile. Good luck with your project
@rgjr702 Жыл бұрын
Even if it does chip around the outlet there is still about an inch around that getts covered by the receptical plate

What is the name of that man drill tool

I found it at Home Depot but they sell them on Amazon. Here's what the Amazon listing says: Scottchen PRO Mounting Mandrel 3/8" & 1/4" Arbor Hole for Type 1 Cut-Off Wheel 1/4" Shaft for Die Grinder Rotary Tool - 1 Pack AND another example on Amazon: Weiler 56089 Die Grinder Cut-Off Wheel and Mandrel Kit

Worst case you cut a little wide and have to head down to lowes and buy the jumbo cover plates!!!😊
@EverydayProjects5 ай бұрын
Yep, That's a good point: Jumbo cover plates. I tried my best to keep the holes small enough to cover with the standard plate.
@daveschevis46042 жыл бұрын
Is it a coincidence you didn't show cutting the width of the single outlet using a 4" diameter Dremel blade? Wouldn't u need to use a smaller diameter blade to avoid cutting beyond the limit of the cover plate?
@EverydayProjects2 жыл бұрын
No, the blade I was using worked well even for the narrow boxes because of the radius of the disk. The cover plate also covers many sins :)
