This is actually pretty nice because this means I can just buy mobile phones, tablets, laptops, at their lowest capacity option and save hundreds of dollars there. Just simply use this as the extra storage.

The worst problem with WD My Cloud Home or Home Duo is that the drive can not be accessed from your personal network in the event that your internet connection goes down, it is not a proper NAS drive which is not clear from the packaging.
@mirasolovklose3888 Жыл бұрын
Yup, such an essential feature to not include in a drive advertised as NAS.

I've got 2x WD MyCloud and one has just failed. Hard drive seems broken like it was dropped. The only issue with these drives, you can't just crack it open and plug it in to your PC to access your files. WD use a specific controller to encode the drive, so you can only access it via their WD cloud software and only over network, very frustrating. Make sure any important personal photo's or video's are backed up somewhere else, as this drive can fail at any time.

Before I went for a holiday trip I added some files to the storage space in WD Cloud Home. Now, when I got home it says it is offline. I can´t get it to work. I fear that I have lost all my files. I hope I am wrong but I cant find any reason to my device being offline. And if I have stored my files in an offline device I can probably forget about finding them again. I really hope I am wrong about this device otherwise I will be really angry. This device, the way I see it, demands a secon safety device which shouldn´t be necessary.

A third party app is required to play video’s (Plex) and you are unable to back up the drive unlike the older model that this one replaces. It all seems a backwards step to me, if the drive fails then I loose everything, that can’t be good. Not happy with it!!!!!

Man, with this disc you have two options, you can connect the straight way like this dude does, but then you can't use it like a net storage with high speed, it has a TERRIBLE speed, so forget about videos streaming to your TV for example. BUT, it has a "public" folder, which actually acts like a normal net folder with super hight speed. That's the way I use it. I stream videos with Kodi and works like a charm. But remember, the high speed only works with the "public" folder!
