Taria's Sketchy Adventures

I sketched this church tower on location, and it took me less than 15 minutes. This is a perfect strategy to capture architecture quickly & loosely in your travel sketchbook when on the move.
PS. This is the fude pen I use in the video: amzn.to/46LFRE0

Ok. I need to practice this. I have a tendency to try painting in the exact colours I see which Dont always translate well. And I need to let there be more white space. I always cover everything and regret it when I’m done.

I’m a big fan of, not only your paintings, but your easy-going manner, Taria. As a stickler for detail I need to adopt your "let’s try this… so what if it doesn’t work out?" approach. I believe I’d get more enjoyment from my own artwork if I was less of a perfectionist. Thank you for an inspiring video. 🙏🏻

Personally speaking I find borrowing the grid system usually utilised by graphic designers helps with layouts like this. the grid i use is dependant on the size of the sketchbook but generally split the 12 grid system into 3 x 4 grids. I dont stick to the grid rigidly but I find it gives my a good starting point for where to place my subjects.

This is so helpful. I tend to do my architectural paintings with so much detail and precision. I need to practice loosening up!

Liron Yanconsky does this kind of thing. It's so beautiful! I don't know why I haven't tried it yet myself. It really is a style that lets watercolor be watercolor.

I'm a complete novice beginner and I don't understand why the sketch book picture looks so much cleaner than the one you just painted. It looks much more muddy or murky than the original. Is that because the paint hasn't dried yet? Thank you

You mentioned Quinadicrone Rose, but I don't seem to find that actual color anywhere. There are several other Rose colors...Can you please be more specific?? Thanks!

hi. I don't know where you are in the world, but over here quinacridone gets sometimes written in a different way...like "Chinacridone."...maybe because it's easier to read/pronounce for people. so maybe that's something at your place too depending on the local language. I think a good magenta colour might also work for this if you have difficulties to find quinacridone rose. :)
