I moved and had to leave my beautiful rhubarb plants behind. Wah. So after seeing this video, I had to buy stalks from the store (I couldn't help myself). Came home, searched frantically for your rhubarb crisp recipe when I ran across this one. It's in the oven as I write and I am certain it will be delectable. I need to find another rhubarb plant to avoid these withdrawls!! Thanks for a wonderful show, love the dogs and thanks for this wonderful recipe. Keep posting!!

Ok, I made this recipe and it turned out very good. The cake is pink in color, tart and sweet at the same time. A little whipped topping and its quite a treat. It's a keeper recipe!

sorry for the delay here, good to hear about your Labs. you should let the rhubarb alone the first year or two, let it get established. rhubarb loves manure, spread it on before it sprouts in spring, and around the plants the rest of the year. you can also feed it fish emulsion - seaweed fertilizer. thx, eric.
@sarahteeach513111 жыл бұрын
FYI: I feed my plants their own leaves as I harvest the stalks. I just stuff them in under the remaining stalks. I think I read to do that in Farmers Almanac:) They said it was very beneficial to the plants.

Sounds super easy and tasty! I enjoyed watching the dogs too. I have two young black labs and the same activities going on all the time around my house. It's great! This is my first year growing rhubarb and was wondering if they spread/divide into new plants year after year? Thanks!

mix the rhubarb and sugar and let it sit for a couple minutes before putting on the heat will help draw moisture from rhubarb so you dont have to add extra water when stewing.

Hey Eric and TCO - Also not a fan of Rhubarb but the recipe is versatile enough like you stated to do a flavor you like. Boy I thought for a minute you had to deep fry this cake the way you were "tagging" that pan with the spray oil :-) I usually do one spritz in the middle of the pan and use the corner of a paper towel to spread it out so the can will last longer. Thanks for sharing you guys are great !! Keep the info and updates growing our way :-{}

I've seen this video a couple times, but decided to re-watch (again) because my rhubarb is sprouting! :-) Anyway, I noticed in the background it looks like you have fencing around a couple of bee hives (or hive stands?). Is that portable electric fence? I've only seen the stuff once and it was used for goats or something. Seems like a good way to keep bears & skunks away from the hives. Has it worked out okay?
@gardenfork11 жыл бұрын
yeah, i kinda oversprayed the pan. happens with me. but yes, this recipe can be used with all sorts of fruit, thx, eric.

I wish the camera operator could be a little less critical and negative. It's like cooking with my Mom. Speaking of Mom, she swore the best fertilizer for rhubarb is horse poop. Our patch continues to flourish. Thanks, Eric.
