Jonathan Black & White, Hi I'm a language learner, too. I'm a native Standard American English speaker who is learning German. I occasionally watch Anna's videos because she has wonderful language learning advice which I regularly share with other learners. Successful youtubers like Anna(more than 300 thousand subscribers) often do not have time to answer questions from older videos. I have a suggestion for you: either google "afraid to speak English" or enter "afraid to speak English" into the youtube search box. There are lots of results in both places. Using Anna's suggestions from this video would definitely boost confidence. Be patient with yourself; be consistent in your language learning. Best of luck

@LovelyEvilAngel2 жыл бұрын
I came up with the following technique for improving my English: 1) Choose a topic you might have to talk about eventually. 2) Try talking about it and typing it out on the computer as you go. Keep in mind that you are actually transcribing spoken English, so don't try to build overcomplicated sentences. Don't stop if you make a mistake and don't go back to fix it yet. Just keep going. If you don't know a word, do your best to paraphrase it, since you will need to be able to do this in real conversation. 3) Check your text, improve its content (you can do some research on the Internet) and look up the words you didn't know in a dictionary that provides examples, such as WordReference. You can also try to learn synonyms in order to avoid excessive repetition of words. 4) Use an automatic grammar checker. There are some free online tools that check your spelling and grammar and, sometimes, suggest you replace a word or sentence with something more natural. 5) Take a recording of yourself reading it aloud. 6) Pay close attention to your recording. Are you pronouncing every word clearly (at least the key words)? Are you stressing the key words? Are you trying to say the sentences with an easy-to-follow rhythm or maybe you're trying to go too fast? Keep in mind that your "audience" needs time to understand and digest what you just said, so try to make a short pause between "meaningful groups of words" (thoughts or chunks) and a longer pause at the end of each sentence. Go back to the previous step until you are satisfied with your recording. 7) Try to talk about that topic. You don't need to repeat what you typed word-by-word. Just be able to talk about it fluently. I started to use it recently and it really helps . If I do it once a week (on weekends), I should be able to talk about 50 different topics in one year from now, and, of course, my grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation will improve significantly. For the rest of the week, I will have to use other methods that are less time-consuming, like the ones suggested in this video. I hope this comment helps someone improve their English.
