Easy rust repair of dishwasher rack with PTFE (Teflon) tape

Cheap way to fix the rust in your dishwasher rack.
I've tried previously with repair paints but they never last long. I've found that using PTFE tape is much easier to apply. It is not so nasty to breath and it lasts longer.
PTFE can stand higher temperatures than the hot water inside the dishwasher.

In my case after 2 years it is in good state. Use a good quality tape and make a tight knot. It should last a long time. At least is lasting more that repair paints.

Thanks for the video, do you know if this is safe from health perspective? did you notice any material on the cleaned dishes, does the tape dissolve or breakdown?

In my experience, until now the tape has not disolved or broken appart. YOu have to use a good quality one. Chinese ones that are very thin are not good. After using it everyday what I notice is that the PTFE hardens, so it becomes more resistant. As for the health, PTFE it does resist high temperatures like a hot water pipe. The 70 degrees C of the dishwasher should be OK. The problem with PTFE releasing dangerous chemicals is more related to frying pans that often are overheated or mechanically damaged. There are other paint alternatives to paint the rust. I would say they are more toxic that PTFE.

Teflon tape is used to seal connections on water pipes, so if it is safe to use on drinking water pipes, then no reason that it can be hazardous in the dishwasher.
