If you're in a winter location and must bring boat out, than yes, unstepping the last is very much preferred.

@@MrBluoct just to elaborate more on this subject. The reason unstepping the mast is best, is that many forget to loosen all the rigging. In cold weather, the stays will shrink a little and may even break causing the mast to fall. I’ve seen this twice at my club, damaging about three boats stored next to each other. The other reason, more common, it that since most of the boat’s weight is sitting on the cradle base, when the wind pushes on the mast, the whole boat will tork and twist since the keel can not sway as it would in water. Hence why so many boats stored with the mast up have these crack between the keel and hull joint.
