I made these tonight (September 4, 2020) and they turned out amazing! I’ve had them in Scotland several times and loved them. It’s been 8 years since I was last there, and when I saw this I knew I had to make them. My daughter loved them, and my son in law (who’s an extremely picky eater) finally tried them and said “not bad.” From him that’s excellent praise. My granddaughter, who’s 16, just shook her head and said, “I don’t think so,” but she finally tried them. They all loved them. Thanks so much for making it so easy to do. I can now have Scotch Eggs whenever I care to.

Visited Scotland intensively a couple of years ago. (I'm gonna the states). I was anxious at everything. He's what we do better; 2. Cook steak. 2. Make beds. 3. Ride two wheeled vehicles. Every other thing- food, traffic control, money, dogs, litter, care for the environment... EVERYTHING was better. I want to move there. 🙏

Apparently it was created in 1738 by 'Fortnum & Masons' department store in London. The snacks name derives from the term 'scotching' which is to wrap minced meat around an egg.

True. Nothing Scotch about them at all, except the word 'Scotch'.

It's just laughable how (some) Canadians resort to speaking in a Scottish accent when discussing the humble Scotch egg. Canadian Masterchef being the prime example.

I must confess, I don't love eggs. I'll eat them now & again but I can't get over the taste of sulfur. If I eat them they have to be fresh from my hens. My family requested these, as we haven't ever tried them. These look like a beautiful version. I like the runny yolk & the addition of shallots. I'm gonna give it a go one of these days. Thank you for sharing your recipe. Take care.

Scotch egg is about as Scottish Pizza. The 'Scotch' egg was adopted, and refined by the English from Asia. 'Scotch' comes from mincing meat and wrapping it around an egg. Nothing to do with Scotland.

Scotch eggs are an English twist on the Asian kofta, and are not Scottish. 'Scotch' comes from wrapping minced meat around an egg. Earliest references to this dish are all from England, and date back as far as Queen Elizabeth I. The first claiments are from Fortnum & Masons of London 1738, and William Scott & sons from Whitby Yorkshire in the 19th century.

Sorry to burst your bubble but, the'Scotch Egg' is not Scottish. It's an English twist on an even older recipie that was adopted from Asia. The term 'Scotch' comes from mincing meat and wrapping around an egg. Both North & the South East of England lay claim to this delicasy, but most definately not from Scotland.
