I'm sure you'd do a great job! pine would be a cheaper way to learn the technique and that might be the look your going for. But it is honestly a really simple and useful joint. the miter joint is also very handy when working with veneered sheet goods. Perhaps in another video!

Looks nice! I believe there is a chance that the joint may weaken over time though as endgrain joins are not very strong. It would strengthen it if you added biscuits to the joints.

+ksp1278 thanks for the feed back. This isn't and end grain joint, it is a long grain joint. I least that's what think. Any ohers want to weight in. here is an example of another long grain joint. www.craftsy.com/blog/2014/06/how-to-cut-a-rabbet-joint/ I believe this joint I super strong as is and I have tried to rip it apart during testing. a biscuit probably would make it stronger but I think it's not needed.

Am I crazy to attempt this with a circular saw on a track?

I don’t see a problem with that. Use a fine, high tooth count blade and practice on a scrap piece first!

@@buildxyz I just made this with my circular saw. Had to make a dual edge guide so that I had both bevel and straight cut (mainly so I didn’t lose my straight cut), I dialled in my mitre saw to a dead on 45 degree bevel and mitre to make 45 degree reference blocks to setup my circular saw. Then with a high tooth blade I made the cut. Was super nervous, took 30 days for this 12mm North American White Oak to turn up, the lack of thickness didn’t help as the strip began to bend slightly once it was disconnected but the glue up seems to have worked

Yeah this is quite a clever way to do it, additionally if you look at Woody Hyezmar’s woodworking methods (google him) you’ll find creative alternatives and ideas.
