To make it a tiny bit more technical you can have a piston hidden in your base that pushes the grass block over the farmland and it will become dirt :)

If there's a way to create a waterfall that is believably natural, the entrance to your base could be behind the water curtain. :) Or if you're felling brave, use a lavafall. :)
