Hiya how did you find the shirring at the bottom of the sleeves? I’m making a version now and I’ve a way bigger gap and it doesn’t fit to my arm at all. It’s massive! Did you run into a similar issue?

So grateful for this video! I used a very similar video to attempt my first shirred dress. It was all going well until it came to attaching the sleeves. In the video I was watching the sleeves were just attached by a few stitches down the side seam. This really didn’t work for me and I was so disappointed as I had spent ages doing the shirring which turned out really well. I was pulling my hair out wondering how I could save the dress. I found this tutorial and attached the sleeves as shown. Absolutely brilliant method and so flattering, I have really sloped shoulders but with this method the sleeves stay up. Many, many thanks for this, I was about to give up on sewing as I was so fed up and you saved me 😊❤❤

Such a beautiful dress Janelle, and perfect for spring in Japan! Just out of interest, when you were shirring the bodice, did you run the stitching in between the rows of flowers or would it not matter if you stitched/shirred over the pattern? The flowers look perfect and not ‘bunched’ up at all when you’re wearing it :-) I also like the technique of using the angle cuts to make it fit perfectly snug♥

I would like to try this, but make it as a top instead of a dress. 🙂 However, I'd want to raise the back neckline up much higher - do you think that would alter the sleeve "cap" shape? Also - you're in Japan, look at the blossoms! 🌸 So envious! I was going to spend 2 weeks in Japan in May 2020 - had the tickets, the accomdations, everything! - but we all know what happened that year. 😢 Very sadly, the friend who was going to take me is no longer in my life, so I don't think I'll ever go..... I hope you have a wonderful stay!😊

One question: When measuring shoulder sleeve circumference, you say to double this measurement. As an example (for clarification), if shoulder measurement equals 17", would the pattern be cut at 34" or cutting two pieces at 17". The length is 13.5" +2.5" for allowances.. As I listen to the narration, I think is it 34" x 16"...is this correct? Thank you. Love this dress!

I think, this is without me completing my dress yet, one could raise the body as a whole. My thinking (and this is what I am trying) is to perhaps shorten the length of the elastic that goes into the sleeve head. I will know tomorrow whether my idea works, which I hope it will as I would like it a little higher too. The pattern and construction is so simple but so effective. I can't wait to finish mine...

@karennelson4108 Жыл бұрын
Hello. Thank you so much for this video. I wanted to make a shirred dress and this perfect. However I do have a question; for the bodice part you say to measure around the bust tightly. Like you my hips are wider than my bust (in my case far, far wider) so I'm a bit confused how the body of the dress will fit my body given you've measured the bodice tightly. As your video shows, when there are lots of shirring rows the fabric contracts. How will the rest of the garment fit across the hips? I intend to cut this pattern this weekend but would like to understand how these measurements will work. Thank you again for a great dress pattern and a good instructional video.
@RoseryApparel Жыл бұрын
Because you end up joining two rectangles that are your bust measurement together to create the dress, the finished hip area will be your bust measurement x 2. Is that wide enough for your hips? If you don’t measure the bust tightly the shirring won’t be snug enough around your bust and will slip down. My hips are also waaay bigger then my bust measurement 😊
@karennelson4108 Жыл бұрын
@@RoseryApparel Thank you so much for taking time to respond to my question. I actually cut my fabric yesterday (before seeing this) as I had a light bulb 💡 moment when I figured it out. I have a dumb question. When sewing the side seams, can't I just use the over locker? It seems like double the work when the serger does both at the same time. I avoid these dresses because of the shoulder slippage so this is wonderful. I am actually going to make this one. ❤
@RoseryApparel Жыл бұрын
Even though the overlocker has a construction stitch too, I like to sew with my sewing machine first as the stitch is more secure then just the overlocker stitch. Doing both will help your handmade clothing last a lot longer. Have fun making your dress x
