Ingredients: • 1 1/2 pounds thinly sliced roast beef (from deli, or you can cook your own) • 4-6 hoagie rolls or French rolls • 1 onion, sliced (optional) • 1-2 tbsp butter (for sautéing onions and toasting rolls) • 4 slices provolone or Swiss cheese (optional) • 4 cups beef broth • 1/4 cup soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce • 2 cloves garlic, minced • 1 tsp onion powder • 1 tsp garlic powder • Salt and pepper to taste Instructions: 1. Make the Au Jus (Dipping Sauce): • In a medium saucepan, combine the beef broth, soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, onion powder, and garlic powder. • Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm. 2. Prepare the Onions (Optional): • If you’re adding sautéed onions, melt the butter in a pan over medium heat and cook the sliced onions until they are soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Set aside. 3. Toast the Rolls: • Preheat your oven’s broiler. Slice the hoagie rolls and spread some butter on each side. Place the rolls under the broiler for about 1-2 minutes until they’re lightly toasted. 4. Assemble the Sandwiches: • Pile the sliced roast beef onto the rolls. If using cheese, place a slice of provolone or Swiss on top of the beef. • You can pop the sandwiches under the broiler again for about 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese. 5. Serve with Au Jus: • Serve the sandwiches with a small bowl of the au jus on the side for dipping. Enjoy!
