Back in the 90s we had a camper down in Alabama, I used to do a lot of crock-pot meals. We could go out on the water all day and supper was quick and easy. Spaghetti was my husband's favorite. I added bell pepper and mushrooms with the onions, but I usually used macaroni so husband called it 'Spaghetti Macaroni' 🤣

Our family, 25 years ago, only used thin spaghetti, then, almost 20 years ago,, fell in love with ♥️ angel hair 😇pasta, by Barilla. Boil for only about four to five minutes MAX, & it's a tiny bit al denta'. So very good! It goes with any sauce, & we'll serve NOT mixed with sauce. Sauce is added on top of pasta., salad on side. So, so good. ✅

Stephen, OK I am a sauce purist. Your idea is spot on, however that much paste can ruin a good recipe. If you have a decent bottle of red wine, use that to thin out the sauce. It will add flavor and thin the sauce. If you really look at Ragu Sauce, it will stick to a spoon. It looks like all it has in it is tomato paste. I love the concept of cooking this dish in the crock pot. It's great how you use your resources. You really have to in today's world!
@PhyllisStokes2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips, Patty!
@lired702 жыл бұрын
@@PhyllisStokes You are so welcome Stephen. One more tip? No sugar in the sauce. Wait until the sauce comes to a boil, you are watching and stirring until it gets to this stage. Take a little baking soda and sprinkle all over the boiling sauce. It sweetens the tomatoes and calms the acid down. If anyone gets heartburn from tomatoe sauce this will help. After the boiling stops then add your spices. I carmalize a big sweet onion. Use as much garlic as you like. For 8 quarts I use 12 pieces. Don't carmalize the garlic,put it in raw. Salt, fresh basil and red pepper to taste. I know it's good because when I go to Virginia Beach to visit my son. I have to bring my very seasoned 50 year old Club Aluminum pot. Yes to make sauce and homemade meatballs. My son will alert all of his friends that I coming! I forgot,always use a quality olive oil.but never fry with it. It seems like you just can't blot olive oil out of the food. Hope this helps.👍

The problem with adding raw ground beef is that it almost melts in the liquid, which is the ideal way to make hot dog chili because you want it very fine. I like the chunky bits of browned ground beef in my spaghetti sauce.
@PhyllisStokes2 жыл бұрын
That's a good point, Jane. There really were no larger chunks of beef in the sauce. The taste was there though.

Never tried adding noodles to the sauce to cook. Also never cooked sauce in a crock pot. I think the sauce would have done better and I think that was what you meant to use anyway. Still not sure about how I feel about adding the raw meat to it because of the grease. I usually drain some grease off unless it has very little fat. I think I might try it but brown the meat first and definitely use green peppers and less garlic. I'm a fan of the powered garlic because of convenience and as you said things don't last very long, not even the hamburger before it's turning brown. I wonder what your mom would think about your spaghetti. She was old fashioned and like to do everything from scratch. I definitely like the shortcuts and believe it still can be good but easier.

Slow cooking raw ground beef is good because it keeps it tender and allows fat to cook out and flavor sauce but you need enough salt
@yellowbird54112 жыл бұрын
Pan spaghetti on the stove top works the same. There are some good recipes online for pan spaghetti. Green pepper would have given it some extra dimension, as would melted cheese on top.

I cringed at using two different kinds of bottled spaghetti sauce because sometimes they just don’t go together well for some reason. I guess there wasn’t a problem. Also I still don’t know how it works with thin noodles. I thought it had to be thicker kinds of noodles to work without boiling. Do the noodles taste right? I guess so. Well, cool!

Only mistake you made was when you added dry pasta and you needed more pasta with 3jars of tomatoes...you needed to add at least 2 cups of water! Paste needs lots of water...Water cooks out but leaves a more rounded flavor to sauce...also more salt with the pasta
