Joe, I’m always amazed by the images you’ve captured. I’d love to see a video of images that you are especially proud of and what you think makes them stand out.

Thank you so much for that, dude. I appreciate your kind feedback. I also think that’s a great idea. I will give it some thought. 👍

I don't do a lot of street stuff, but my biggest mistake once was forgetting the lens! My little Fuji x-e always has a little manual voigtlander lens on it. I popped the camera in my pocket, forgetting I'd taken the lens off to clean it 🤦 Coffee was nice in the city. Thanks again Joe

Thanks for sharing Don’t feel too bad about forgetting your lens. I’ve forgotten things that are important before. It seems to happen when I am rushed or I just forget to check everything . 😅

Joe - great tips and images here. Being the photographic Control Freak I am, I usually go full manual with Auto ISO, but I like your method too. Thanks for the continuing useful content on your channel.

I use manual mode but with auto ISO. I prefer to be in control of 2 of my settings whenever possible. I can still use exposure compensation when needed. If I'm standing still I may use 1/250 but if I'm walking towards someone that's walking towards me I'll double the shutter speed to 1/500. I have set on a park bench and used a slow shutter speed to get blurry images of people passing by. I do want to get a photo of one person standing still in a crowd while everyone else is moving and use a slow shutter speed. I never think about it when I'm out. I guess my biggest failures are when I can't react to something fast enough and it's over before I can get the shot. You have to pay attention to what's around you at all times. Stay off your phone. That's the hardest one for me. I use a 28mm lens most of the time so I usually shoot between f/5.6 and f/8. Occasionally I'll use f/2.8. I'll pre focus on a spot that I want in focus and wait for someone to walk in that spot.

Thanks for sharing your setttngs man. They are great. I have exactly the same trouble as you, when I cannot react to something quickly enough.I think even the most seasoned street photographers have that issue. But it is annoying. Especially when you know that what you missed would have missed would have made a great shot.

Excellent tips as always, and very similar to the settings I use. With a lot of practice I do go as low as 1/80 for the shutter speed under certain circumstances.

@joeredski 10 күн бұрын
Thanks so much, Johnny. 1/80 is my go to at night. But I often hit that during the day as well. Cheers, man.

Joe, ive bought a Ricoh FR3 but finding it so confusing to set up. Ive used Olympus and Fuji cameras no problem. So ive put it in a cupboard for now.

Question: how are you triggering the shutter in some of those clips? You appear to be holding a mini tripod, not pressing the shutter or tapping the screen, yet taking a photo?
@joeredski
@joeredski 10 күн бұрын
Hi Matt, thanks for the question. I use a wired shutter release cable. I have a disability in my arms so I cannot fire the shutter like regular people, so I use one of those. Cheers.

@@joeredski Cheers for the swift reply. Interesting 🤔 I imagine that might add some level of ability to not look like you're taking photos of a given scene (the pattern most people would expect subconsciously is the photographers hand/finger over the top right of the camera). Great video and thanks for sharing. Loving some of that work and it's fired me up a little to dig out my old GRII and keep it on me more. Something I'd never considered was minimum shutter speed (I'm hoping the GRII firmware has it) in combo with Av and AutoISO (I'm a sucker for "manual everything which as you say isn't the best setup for quickly changing scenes/light)

Joe, I'm a one-handed photographer looking to duplicate how your camera is mounted on a pole that has the capability of tripping the shutter on your Ricoh. where can I purchase the same setup?
@joeredski
@joeredski Күн бұрын
Thanks for the question Mark. I have my camera attached to the selfie stick as I can’t hold it any other way, but I also have a wired Shutter release cable that goes into the USB port of the Ricoh, so I am using two hands. I did look for a selfie stick that has a shutter release capability, but I don’t think it exists.

That takes care of exposure, but do you have any suggestions for quick _composition_ ? For hunters, not fishermen.
@joeredski
@joeredski 10 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Sure, I’ve got quite a few videos on composition, if you are interested. But I always start with the rule of thirds, and work from there.

annoyingly my camera does not have a minimum shutter speed setting. Lumix GX 80 them leaving that off was very annoying.
@joeredski
@joeredski 10 күн бұрын
Sorry to hear that. It’s just handy, you certainly don’t need to have it to make those settings work. Just set your shutter speed to whatever works for you. Cheers for your comment and for watching 👍
@lorenschwiderski
@lorenschwiderski 10 күн бұрын
@@joeredski Yes, you can use Shutter Priority, or S Mode. I have the Lumix GX9 which has the minimum shutter speed, yet have several MFT which do not. Problem is when you have to watch for apertures going beyond f8 on MFT -- diffraction and all.
@Elisha_the_bald_headed_prophet
@Elisha_the_bald_headed_prophet 10 күн бұрын
I'm on the same boat. The problem with setting a fixed shutter speed (along with a fixed aperture) is that it won't automatically increase in brighter scenes as needed. Choosing it is a tricky balance, keeping in mind the range of brightness you might encounter.
@joeredski
@joeredski 10 күн бұрын
Yes, that’s the problem with Shutter Priority, unfortunately.
@joeredski
@joeredski 10 күн бұрын
Thanks again. If you’re using aperture priority then you don’t need to fix your shutter speed. And if you’re using shutter priority, you don’t need to fix your aperture. Manual mode gives you complete creative control where you can adjust the exposure depending upon the scene.
