Thanks for the video. I'm looking at buying a used 4Rumner to replace my Tacoma (frame rust manufacturer's defect, rusted through at 90,000 miles and Toyota told me to pound sand and then laughed at my misfortune, and the Tacoma is breaking in half at 138,000 miles). The 4Runner will be more useful for me, and the times I need a truck I'll pull a small trailer. My only reservation is some very occasional mild off road, and larger tires with a lift kit should take care of it.
@smitheys
@smitheys 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks & wow, I’m sorry to hear that! You would think a reputable brand, especially Toyota, would look out for its owners. I like Tacoma’s too, they are nice trucks, but I like the 4Runners a little more.

Even though you took out the rubber bumper from the example drivers side rear spring, you don't show it going back in....until you speed through the spring reinstallation. I suppose the lift "pocket" fits nicely back over the bump stop in the spring. Correct?

Thanks! It was definitely a fun rig. I did take it off-road a few times in a few of the other videos but it wasn’t the main topic of the videos. I would make a few more videos, but I no longer own that 4Runner, I traded it for a 2016 5th Gen runner.

There’s mixed feeling about going longer, but me personally I don’t think you need to with this kit. If you went to a 6-8, yes I would. It’s completely up to you but I used the stock height and was completely fine.

@smitheys 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I wasn’t trying to make the video really long. Sorry about that. I did have trouble myself getting it back in. it just takes a lot of prying and pushing. Try loosening the cam bolts as well. I used a bottle jack on a Jeep before. You may be able to wedge the bottle Jack in and open it giving you clearance.

Hey bud, nice build. Question with the 3 inck lift: Did you have to get new Upper Control Arms? Im hearing that anything above 2.5 that new UCAs are needed?

What’s up Samuel! I did not get new control arms. With different lift kits, some include them, some say it’s recommended, but with this lift it’s not needed.

They are pretty cheap, but they make it a rough ride. Solid, but stiff. Didn’t have any problems the short period I had them. I don’t have that 4Runner anymore. Honestly if I did it again, I would upgrade to something else. (If I could afford it!) ha.

Sorry about that Nick! You may have to reach out to the supplier and let them know you have faulty parts. Or, you may need to inspect your other parts. You might have other components that need replacing/grease. I never had any issues, squeaks/pops, anything. I drove about 7 hours the day after I installed it and never had issues.

Great video. Do you know how big of a lift kit I would need to put on 20" tires?
@smitheys
@smitheys 3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, from that standpoint I have no idea. There are so many wheel and tire combinations, offsets, different measurements, different tires you can gonna run, etc. if you’re going with extremely low profile rubber, maybe a 4-6? If you’re going aggressive treaded rubber, probably 6-10. Those are just best guesses though. Hope that helps.

@smitheys
@smitheys 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know for 100% certainty, but it sounds like it’ll rub. It’ll probably fit though. It all depends on the type of your rims, the offset, the tires you choose, etc. Sorry I couldn’t be more specific.

@smitheys
@smitheys 3 жыл бұрын
It’s no problem at all, love to help! So if you buy the kit I bought from Rough Country, it’s all in that kit. Shocks for the front, shocks for the rear, spacers for the front and a lifting block for the rear.

How much cost a jobs like this approx?
@smitheys
@smitheys Жыл бұрын
Well if you do it yourself, it’ll only cost your time and the lift. If you take it to a shop, that’ll range based on their shop rates. It’ll only take between 3-6 hours. If I remember correctly, the instructions from the manufacturer say it should take 4-6 hours. Hope this helps, sorry I couldn’t be more specific. Too many shops to know everyone’s rates.
